if those are all true than they've really hired the wrong guy!

Between Gaudreau's impasse and Monahan's injury the team didn't have a first line through the preseason, and I think that's catching up to them because the powerplay is sputtering, key players aren't finishing, and with that it's getting away from them.

As a result the players are panicking somewhat and trying to do it on their own.

Most of that isn't coaching, it's just what is.
Gaudreau was flying in the World Cup. And the Bennett line and all defensemen had full camps. Yet, outside of Backlund and Frolik, the team, top to bottom, has struggled at both end of the ice. And they've done so from game 1, despite being picked as anywhere from a wildcard team to a power in the Pacific, so I don't see panic accounting for their struggles in every regular season game and most of the preseason. And, as i said above, they've done so employing some consistent, and consistently unsuccessful, system mechanics.

If most of it isn't coaching, then it must be that most of it is a better roster than the one that was top 10 in the league in goals last year just forgot how to generate offense.

Geaudreau was flying in the World Cup because he had room. There were other threats on his line. If Geaudreau is perceived to be the only real threat, then time and space will be limited to him. This is not an excuse, it is a reality. Geaudreau must learn to fight through it. Backlund and Frolik had partial camps and played in the World Cup, they also were advantaged to be paired together coming out of the World Cup.

Perhaps, the Flames shouuld make Geaudreau, Backlund, and Frolik the top line and see what happens? Can't get any worse than it is right now.

If this Geaudreau guy played on the World Cup team he's gonna cost us a pretty penny to acquire.

Then he came back to Calgary ... late and had the weight of the world on his shoulders.

I don't see a lack of try

I see a team's core that doesn't want a repeat of last season that through a combination of bad bounces and getting down early continue to abandon the game plan and do it on their own.
