Good luck Moss. I remember when he broke out of the league. He scored a goal in his first 3 games. I also had the pleasure of meeting him at the Grape escape a ways back.
Classy player indeed!

Never played another AHL game as far as I know

A part of Sutters infamous 10 twenty goal scorers or whatever it was.
Always liked him as a Flame.

Good luck to a hard working player who carved out a nice career.
Unfortunately my single most vivid memory of him is missing the open net in game 6 OT vs. Chicago. He put it right over the net - which was a much more difficult accomplishment than actually scoring on the play.

Solid player, good luck in retirement, blah, blah blah, but I'll never forgive him for missing the empty net vs. Detroit in the 07 playoffs.

Came here to post exactly this. That play is still burned into my brain.
Hard-working, classy guy who got on with his job and did what must of us could only dream of. Enjoy your hard-earned retirement!

He said "humbled to play in the NHL", but should have said "honored to play in NHL"
Quality player who played hard every night. Was a fan!

It was vs DET.
Just watched it again... gah! Amazing that we were that close to forcing a Game 7 in that series considering how badly we were outplayed. Kipper single-handedly stretched us to Game 6 for sure.

Yeah that is a pet peeve. Athletes love to say they are "humbled" after being honored.
Hey Joe, how do you feel about being elected to the Hall of Fame? "It is humbling..." I think that is in the pro athlete handbook to make you sound less elitist.
Anyway Moss certainly comes across as a good ordinary guy. Can't believe I said earlier his empty net miss was against Chicago - it was Detroit of course.

A solid career for a 7th round pick. I always liked his work ethic on the Flames.
Are people seriously criticising that missed net against the Wings? Even if he puts that in the Flames still would have been smashed in Game 7 in Detroit just like in Games 1, 2 and 5.

I haven't seen anyone "criticize" him for it. It was very memorable, game 6 in OT.
Since we were all watching the game and remember it, I presume its because we wanted Flames to win and were ready to hope for a miracle in game 7.
But yeah. He should have scored.

David Moss seemed like a good guy to me. I usually find the NHL players who play the full 4 years of college have more going on in their heads than hockey. I would frequently see him walking around with a book and if you spoke to him, had a pretty good sense of what was happening in current events. A lot of hockey players are pretty insulated in that regard.
Also, he frequently invited this wheelchair bound kid (had Cerebral Palsy IIRC) who adored him and hung out with him after the occasional game. I think he did a lot of stuff like that which went under the radar a bit.
Curious to see what his next move is.

I actually have a Moss jersey.
Really surprised by this. Seems just a short time ago he was called up to get some other prospect going with whom he had had AHL chemistry with - forget who. Moss stuck and the other guy didn't.

A guy might look around at the company he is part of and realize how much more talented they all are and/or how much more they work for it. That would be humbling. ...but yeah, honored is probably a better word.
