Martin Jones is 2-1 with a SP of 0.896. It is nothing to worry about for the Sharks this early, but I won't be at all surprised to see him and the team take a step back this year.

Do you feel that given their forward talent they should be faster up the ice? Maybe it was Boston being good but it seemed like the forwards had no open ice in front of them ever.
We've seen what the results are when the forwards have to work way too hard for everything.

It's an extremely tired metaphor, especially as it is applied to sports.

Hmmm. Maybe not. But I was never fortunate enough to see either of them play, so I can't say one way or the other.

Best winger of modern era is probably a fair comment. Who would his peers be? Lafleur? Bossy? I would put him ahead of Hull or Kurri.

October 17, just four games.

I would definitely put him ahead of all four. Primarily because he was so much more dominant than every other player at the time when he was in his prime. There were five or six years there where he singlehandedly made the Penguins a dangerous team, and no one could touch him.

Until Winnipeg gets some truly elite talents they'll continue to be a middle of the road team. Laine could be that. I've said it before, they have some good players, but not enough great ones that can elevate the team even on nights when they aren't playing a full team, near 60 minute game. They're a team that has to be playing well bottom to top to get wins. When they aren't, they get walked on. Good teams have the Kanes and Crosbys that can take the team on their back when it's not playing great. Otherwise you're relying on work ethic as your crutch when talent can't steal you points every odd night, and often the team will run out of gas. Just like the Jets did when they returned to the playoffs in 2015. They had the size to compete with the ducks. But the ducks had the talent.

I disagree. They have tons of forward talent already, which is why I was expecting more.
I imagine they'll figure it out. They have some young players but Maurice doesn't really have any excuse not to make it work.

Yes. They have forward talent. A lot. But not elite forward talent (McDavid, Gaudreau, MacKinnon types), which was the point being discussed in the post. Please read carefully.
However I feel that Laine could develop into that. But he won't be that this year. Scheifele is close, but I feel the aforementioned players are on a tier above him, despite his scoring pace last season.

Scheifele has trouble creating on his own. thats what you're trying to say....and i tend to agree. most of their forwards are like that....but laine, scheifele, connor, and ehlers could turn out to be real game breakers. wealth of talent.

What about Wheeler? You haven't mentioned their best forward.
