Much as I love Gilmour most of his music is painfully boring and both Division Bell and Lapse of Reason relived so heavily on his guitar abilities and numerous thematic retreads from previous albums (like the excessive use of sound effects, wind blowing, water rushing, random other sounds etc).
Both MLOR and DB where not albums by committee, MLOR was practically considered a solo project and DB was the birth child of David Richard and Nick locking themselves away jamming together. Listen to Endless River which was the cuts from that album, no where close could DB be considered an album by committee in fact that was biggest "band" effort since Wish You Were Here. You may not like it, by all means everyone has their taste and are not wrong for that, but it was a band album and was amazing to hear Richard once again have a musical force in the band.

Plus I wouldn't take David's lyric writing so lightly, he's far to modest but regardless Polly's pen of High Hopes could hold it's own against any Lyric in the Pink Floyd catalog including solo careers of all 4 members.

I don't think David is trying to capture the past of his former band, His last two world tour's were huge for Floyd, they were the pinnacle of the top tour band at the time. He could easily resurrect that dinosaur if he wanted and he's not interested in doing that anymore and even when you look at that it has snowballed insanely from doing the Robert Wyatt tribute

It's never going to be like it was they are not 30 yearolds trying to be the best and discovering themselves in the world and their place, they are 70's old men and thank god David has become boring to some for the plain fact who wants to see a 70 year old acting like they a 30

His last twp solo tours have been celebrations of his 60th and 70th birthday.

Edited to add , sorry if this reads as a negative tone, by all means I don't mean it to sound that way. Love the conversation and topic, and I'll admit I love the difference in opinion because it opens up a different view I never thought or considered or heard.

No that's a good post. If anything I was probably a bit too hard on both Waters and Gilmour in my post.

My only real retort would be regarding the album by committee comment. I don't have a source, but I recall reading about how Gilmour had tremendous difficulties writing for Lapse and DB and had to bring in a ton of help to get the albums done. I have a couple of books on PF may have been on one. Or it was online. I'll try and find it.

I would rather see David Gilmour, but is he ever going to tour here? Probably not. I'll take Roger Waters for the nostalgia of Pink Floyd. I've accepted that in order to see any Pink Floyd songs live, i'll only be able to see a single member of the band.

I saw Waters here in 2007. It was a great experience. I was going to go to Vancouver to see the Wall, but had to cancel at the last minute, so I missed out on that. The documentary/concert on Netflix of that tour was superb.

I got tickets this morning in section 113 in Edmonton. Looking forward to this show.

Don't know about committee, these are all rumours and internet chatter of PF fans dreaming of the reunion. But even now, when I listen to A New Machine or High Hopes for the nth time, I have goose bumps...

So after buying tickets in 113, I found floor seats and impulse bought those as well. So if anyone wants to buy my seats in 113 off me i can transfer them to you from Ticketmaster. You'll save on the fees and all that.

$150 x 2 tickets = $300. I paid $349.20 with the fees.

Section 113, Row 16 Seat 9 & 10.

Just send me a PM. Thanks.
