That'll change if this team reverses last years fortunes. As much as us die hards are excited, your average Calgarian just remembers that we were one of the worst teams in the league last year.

If they can string together a good start, excitement will build. If not, well, people in a crappy economy will find cheaper entertainment options.

Only in sports do you see some sort of implied "responsibility" on the customer to pay to watch a bad product.

With a crappy team (or even a good team), sometimes it is tough to justify going to a Wednesday night game against the Hurricanes or Panthers in the middle of winter where it is -30 and a blizzard outside... Let alone the arena is in the middle of the nowhere

I'll never understand why they didn't build the arena closer to downtown. Traffic is insane on the way home after a game at Canadian Tire.

Simple explanation. There's an idiot tax on Leaf games at the Canadian Tire Center. A ticket that will be $66 tonight will be $18 when Arizona comes to town next week. What Senators fan is going to pay extra to go watch a game against a crappy Leafs team and deal with the Leaf fans who don't know how to behave in public?

The better question is why all the alleged Leaf fans in Ottawa aren't buying the tickets? Are they disappointed that Auston Matthews isn't getting his number retired tonight?

The arena location is one thing, but I don't know if you can blame it all on that. The Canucks have a prime downtown arena and apparently, they aren't sold out yet either.

Nobody wants to watch that garbage team. They are projected to finish last this season. Ottawa is at least a bubble team.

Vancouver doesn't have a whole lot of diehard fans. High percentage of bandwagoners.

There are a number of factors at play IMO.

Bad team, bad management, fickle fans, cost.

I know I wouldn't fork over the kind of coin required to go see a game nowadays if I was a Canucks fan. The cost of attending an NHL game in most Canadian cities is out of this world nowadays. Add a crappy team with no future to the mix and only the most delusional fanbase willed with sweatpant wearing, mullet sporting idiots would continue to fork over huge money to watch a dumpster fire.

I grabbed tickets to the Canucks and Flames game in Vancouver and it looked comparable to that OTT seat selection screenshot the day I bought my tix. Besides, who wants to watch the Leafs play?

Arena location sucks. Their CFL team regularly sells out, in large part because of the location and surrounding restaurants.

Stupid Twitter. I clicked on the link in the OP and then lost 15 minutes of my life reading the ensuing argument between Leafs and Sens (and Panthers! (wtf?) fans.

Imagine if the Saddledome was in Airdrie? That's about the Senators situation...

But Airdrie is only 10 min away from downtown Calgary. People will still go to watch their beloved Flames

I would expect that with the economy the way it is that sellouts are going to be tough to accomplish.

This is why the mere mention of putting the new arena in Ballsack makes me shake my head. As a southwesterner, there's pretty much no chance I'd bother driving that far to go to a game, when my TV is so close, and such high def, and my beer is so cold and relatively cheap, in my no-line-up fridge.

Such a stupid mistake they made in Ottawa.

I'd go to Sens games if they handed out these.

If there was a Calgary equivalent for where the arena is the Flames would play in Crossfield. That will hurt any team. 45 minute drive from downtown ottawa.
