They know there are supposed to actually play hockey tonight, right? Or are they all going to be in such a daze of new arena smell and star-oogling they will forget which side the net is on?

As skeptical as I am, it has to be a great time to be an Oilers fan. McJesus, new amazing rink, management and coaches who actually are good, good players willingly going there...and then throw in the best player in their history (anyone's history) coming along for the ride.

I still hope they crash and burn, but pretty cool time for them. Most optimism going into a season in probably 25 years.

Green text? All they have to be excited for is McDavid. Their management and coaches are hot garbage. I imagine the luster of the new rink will wear off very quickly as the losses mount.

Alongside all of these awesomesauce things they have also been historically terrible. They have redefined failure in the context of professional sports and they, and their fans, are the laughingstock of all things sport.

The Oilers remind me of Wall Street just before the crash, everything is going awesome because they just keep wrapping their crap in fake gold and polishing the brass on the Titanic.

It's like when you get that new RC car for Christmas. It is the awesomest thing ever, but you know in the back of your mind it won't last. The plastic gears will shred, the batteries won't hold a charge and you are left with a busted hunk of junk.

Maybe Gretzky will actually be the new mascot? I think that's more in line with his capabilities than actually running/coaching an NHL team.

Not sure what role Gretzky, who is here with son-in-law Dustin Johnson, will have with Oilers. Advisor probably.

Always a good sign to have golf on the players minds at the start of a new season.

Why all the beating around the bush?

Just bring back Peter Pocklington back and be done with it...

Works for me.....As long as the Oilers keep living in the past, their future will be hard to change.

What are you talking about.

Chia has been pretty much disaster who's only good move is drafting first overall, but frankly I could do that in 10 minutes and then get back to reading a Deadpool comic. He's pretty much been butchered in all of his trades. He's actually made their forward group worse, and while he did improve the blueline its still bottom half in the league.

Ok, coaching, T-Mac - What's he done. in the first year he failed to do anything that significantly improved the team besides saying "Cam hey Cam, its T-mac, roar, your starting:. the rest of the season he failed to get a competitive effort out of his team, he didn't fix their offense, nor Yak, nor make Hall a better player.

Good players willing to go there? Lucic. Hey Luc . . . we'll give you a long term deal that will probably kick the crap out of us in a couple of years, but we need you on posters . . . you in?

Hey Russell, yer running out of options, your no better then a bottom pairing blueliner but we'll giver you a Versteeg to Calgary deal and Peter Principle you up the lineup . . .you in?

The only job in management that Gretzky is qualified for is to cut ribbons on shopping malls. Sorry its true, he was a great player, but a disaster as a coach oh yeah he was a executive director of a Canadian Olympic team, that was a tough job. I mean seriously, the guy is great, but he should be kept as far away from hockey operations as possible to protect his reputation.

And a new building, awesome. But its like getting a knight rider lunch box and taking a crap inside. The box looks awesome but what's inside stinks and is a biohazard.
