Decent option for the 7th D spot, he probably only plays 20-40 games. I imagine if there is an injury, Kulak will be on the first plane out of town, they just don't want him rotting in the press box.

Do not like. Grossmann looked slow and disinterested to me during camp, but maybe management sees something I don't.
I guess if I had to say one good thing, it's that I would rather see him sitting in the pressbox over Kulak.

It's a low cost signing but boy is this team ever hesitant to give players in their system a chance to make the team. What more could Kulak have done?

Kulak and Wotherspoon are going to hate Treliving so much, unless Wideman and/or Engelland is traded.
Also, what makes Grossman better than Nakladal, who was just begging the Flames to sign him a couple of weeks ago for league minimum?

Voted for Kodos

1 year at league minimum pretty much ensures this signing is zero risk.

Flames sign Grossman (1 yr, 1way, $575k)
Looks like it's going to be:
Giordano - Wideman
Brodie - Engelland
Jokipakka - Hamilton
Grossman

I like the signing, adds depth as injuries will occur.

Did you follow the forwards in training camp the past couple weeks? So many opportunities, no one really stepped up. Kulak will get his chance, it's a long season.

GOAT!

Wait. Can Grossman now be used towards meeting our availability requirements for the expansion draft?
Or am I confused in thinking there are availability requirements vs protection requirements?
Or am I just confused in general?

Might be as simple as having too many RH shots on D.
Also re: Wotherspoon, he's had multiple chances and he hasn't shown he's an NHLer.

Since he isn't signed for 2017/2018 he won't meet the requirements. He would also have needed to play at least 12 games this season to meet requirements.

Letting Kulak have another year or seasoning in the minors is better than having him eat popcorn every 2nd game. This is the opposite of what the soil era (auto corrected from "Oilers" but unbelievable fitting so left) do, so you know it's right. Wideman, Engelland, Grossman, Jokipakkaall are all expiring after this season so there's a huge opportunity next year, along with Kylington, Andersson, etc.

Grossman could still go to the AHL too - don't have a veteran d-man on the farm team and he may be willing to go down.
The 1-way contract is irrelevant since he requires waivers either way and the cap hit is low enough that it doesn't count in the minors anyways.

Sigh... Nakladal signed for almost the same amount and Kulak is better. We should be giving a young guy NHL reps not signing a bad veteran.
