I take Versteeg on that top line over Ferland or Chiasson any day.
Also pushes Bollig down the depth chart which may be the biggest win of all.

We're becoming the Blackhawks. Bollig, Brouwer, Frolik, Versteeg.

Lots of articles out there stating the oilers were intent on signing him, perhaps when offered the choice he would choose the flames? He had said he would be happy being closer to home and Calgary is closer than Edmonton

Cool!
I actually sort of called this a couple weeks ago. Awesome, nonetheless. He's better than a few of the options being given to us right now.
His home is Lethbridge. Maybe Calgary just wouldn't sign him to PTO initially, but playing in Edmonton they could monitor him there.
This is also hilarious as Oilers fans had pencilled him into their lineup already. #snagged

I would like this a lot more if the Flames didn't have a few dead weight players already on the roster in Chiasson and Bollig.

Why???
He is so slow.
I don't get it. You are better off with Shinkaruk.

Meh. Try him on the top line, and if it doesn't work out then at least he should be trade bait at the deadline. This team desperately needs more skill in the top 6 so I don't mind this signing, depending on the cap hit.

Apparently had a good preseason with the Oilers. At least, that's what Oilers fans say.

That's the nature of building a playoff contender. Teams try to build character rosters, but you can't just have 23 players who check off every box because that team would cost 90mil+.
Even the Stanley Cup contenders insert some offense at the expense of other traits, you have to do it at times, and I'd say this season with a top 6 hole they're in a position to suck it up and do that.
To look at every minor move and say "what? This guy doesn't fit the plan/identity" is to ignore the salary cap world we live in.

I'd put him on par with Parenteau. Pulkkinen vs Parenteau/Versteeg is really a choice between certainty and upside.

Personally would've rather taken a shot with Pulkkinen or Frk, but I guess we'll see how things go.

He was offered contract from both Calgary and Edmonton. Flames offer slightly better. Im glad he chooses Calgary, Kris is a real beauty.
