Not if he's on injured reserve.

IR still counts against the cap. They don't count against the roster limit.

Yes, that's what I'm saying.

He's injured so I assume he's on injured reserve, which means he still counts against the cap but they can call/keep someone up to replace him.

they still need cap space to put that person on the roster. If he counts against the cap (and I think he does), then the Flames are still about 340k over the cap, so someone else would need to be sent down.

Gotcha.

Or they could put Pribyl and/or Smid on LTIR no?

I don't know about that. He wasn't hurt in the NHL so the NHL would have to determine if his injury will definitely keep him out 10 games/24 days.

No they don't, with Vey down and even with Smid not on LTIR they have $1.2 million in cap space add Pribyl they are down to 300k

I'm not sure Pribyl qualifies, even if he does they wouldn't want to put him on it until tomorrow.

Having Vey around the team, even if it be limited to press box and practices, lies Vey an opportunity for a few things that are of interest to management.

Those things include but are not limited to knowing the big club has confidence in him to get things back on track.

Allows players like F. Hamilton to focus on his game rather than wondering if he's gonna get sat to make more room for Bollig's expanded or larger role..

And quite frankly gets Bollig away from this team and for no other reason than getting undeserved minutes.

Players like Vey with a bit more experienced (NHL) don't necessarily develop anymore at that leve, they more maintain or decline.

Sure, kids now playing against men develop, but not necessarily younger men continue to.

I simply do not see a role on this team for Bollig unless he is going to play Sheriff. Which we know he's not going to.

Because Pribyl didn't play in the NHL last season, he'll be assigned as "Injured Non-Roster" like Bennett was two years ago. I don't believe there's any cap hit in that situation.

for season opening injured reserve it states injured in training camp as apart of the definition on CapFriendly. Bennett was technically hurt in camp, Pribyl was not.

If Bollig is the 13th forward he still draws in for the Oilers game. You know Kassian and Lucic will want to drop the gloves in the opening of the new arena.
