I think they have a typo in their release. It says youngest in NHL history, not AHL history.

How many times has a team given a letter to a player who has yet to have played a regular season game for the team?

What is the oilers cap situation in the next years? have to think he'll be asking north of 7.5-8MM/year to stay in that dumpster fire.

Meh....

How'd the captaincy audition go just a few weeks back?

At least they have strong leaders amongst their vets..... luci, kassa us hitting vet status, not to mention strong leaders on the backend like..... um, sekera.... ummmm, larsson?

Just really solid by all accounts.

I will say he hasn't been in the organization to be permanently tainted like the other golden boys so it makes some sense as McDavid probably still feels like the Oilers have a chance to be a good team. Once reality sets in it's hard to be a leader when you know the situation is hopeless.

The Edmonton Oilers named Andrew Ference their captain before he had ever played a single regular season game for the team.

Didn't the Oilers do exactly that with their last captain?

Right, forgot about Ference. So it's a theme for the Oil, then?

I know it may not have looked it, but believe it or not the Oilers did play some NHL games last season.

Who else would they have named though? Mcdavid is the leader of that team.
