Oh for sure, if they can protect my inside thigh and can slim down the pant at the same time I'd be all for it. I hate the feeling of the inside roll as its bulky and uncomfortable, and limits my movement a bit. You get used to it after a while.

Why can't the NHL set a maximum size for goalie equipment, not relative to the physique of the person, but just absolute definitive measurements.

So you can draft Yao Ming to be your goalie, but he can only wear equipment that is a defined size, not relative to the height or physique of the person.
I suppose that would make it fairer for everybody.

I was listening to Steve Kouleas on Sirius today, and he suggested any defensive zone penalty in the last two minutes automatically result in a penalty shot. I can get behind that.

Something that I'm pretty convinced would result in an increase in offense would be to introduce a kind of over and back rule at the blue line. IE once the offense has gained the blue line, the defensive team must move the puck passed the centre line to force a clearing situation. Essentially turning half the ice into an offensive zone.

I'm open to why it won't work, and I'm not sure they'd ever adopt it, but ultimately, the only way to increase scoring is to increase the chance of making a mistake. That red line is an awful long way away, and it would negate a ton of the defensive schemes designed to stifle offense. It would also allow the offense the chance to retreat and regroup inside the attacking zone. Puck possession would become even more valuable.

Maybe the problems facing international hockey would appear in the NHL. Maybe instead of the centre line, we introduce another line halfway between the current blue line and centre as the 'clear line'. I'd like to see what it looks like though.

Its an interesting concept.

Hockey really should utilize the penalty shot more.

Unlike in soccer where the shooter is heavily, heavily favoured, in hockey its nearly 50/50 if not in favour of the goaltender.

It used to be 50/50 in the old, easy to score days.

It is much lower now - without looking it up, I believe it is more in the 30% (scoring) range

I'd believe that.

You know, they want to increase scoring in the NHL they should make defensive zone penalties kind of like Field Goals.

"Do you want to take the 2 minute powerplay or a penalty shot?"

Brilliant. Then we can have an entire line whose sticks have a nail sticking out at the end!

Why give them the option? Who's not going to take the penalty shot?
