I will clarify my view and say it's not the Chinese race, but the Chinese nationals that are the problem. They're pretty new to travel, relatively speaking, so they're not accustomed to proper travel etiquette. I notice the problem more when I'm traveling in Asia. Japan seems to have become a very popular destination over the past half-dozen years or so. As an example, Uniqlo, a fast retailer in Japan, has their flagship store in Ginza, Tokyo. This is the only location that offers duty free, so it's a draw among tourists. You can tell when there's a busload of Chinese tourists, because they are very loud, all the clothes they have tried on, are thrown on the floor, and according to my wife, all the toilets in the ladies room are wet. I refuse to visit Kyoto in the spring, solely because of the huge number of Chinese tourists.

The only Chinese people who are able/can afford to leave and even be a tourist in the first place likely had to climb over and stomp on the bodies of the vast majority of other Chinese people too poor and left behind. At least that's the way I've guess at it.
Certainly it's an exaggeration but I wonder how much of it might be true.
From my limited experience vacationing in China (3+ weeks) I concluded that there is just not time for courtesy. There is a scarcity of resources for everything, including time in the day to be polite and wait in line. If you wait in line, you miss out as there isn't enough of X to go around.
I wonder, what is the difference between a Chinese tourist and a Chinese immigrant neighbour?
I dunno is there in terms of these attitudes? Does someone just lose the values of there native country when the emmigrate from it? This can be asked of any natuonality, not just Chinese.
I hate it when Chinese tourists go on vacation in large groups and get all drunk and belligerent and messy, and generally treat the locals like they are slaves.

Yeah this isn't true. China has a huge middle class now that travels tons. I've lived here for 6 years and the vast majority are doing quite well. This isn't North Korea. It's a lot more developed than Canada to be honest.
This summer I had so many students who went to travel to the US or London. I'm 100% sure they were very polite and respectful. It's mostly the older generation that is so impolite.

Tourists not respecting the customs of the country they travel to is nothing new. Being socially uneducated, sheltered and feeling culturally superior to the people whose country you are visiting doesn't help.
Oh yeah, but to get back on topic...a lot of them are racist! Especially towards black people. They think all black people are drug dealers, rapists, or thieves.
They have these stereotypes for every race, but to them they aren't stereotypes because they are 100% true. In Chinese the word stereotype doesn't even exist!

I actually physically moved a Chinese tourist who cut in front of me to use the urinal last year in Thailand. Put my hand on his shoulder as he prepared to start using it, and just pushed him off to the side and took my place at the urinal. My Canadian politeness had long worn off with their tour groups and I wasn't taking it anymore.
We're not lining up in front of the urinals for the fun of it you stupid ####.

The liberals havent had time to invade and brainwash the Chinese yet.
On a flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok, I watched a Chinese national grab the bottle of wine off the drink cart and proceeded to try and pour himself a glass. The flight attendant (Thai), had her back to the passenger. She was shocked to see him pouring his own glass and tried to grab the bottle back. They nearly got in a physical altercation. It was more entertaining than the movie.
In Xian, I had to physically remove a person trying to board the bus by the back door as I was exiting. Think LRT, but 100x worse.

It's almost like different cultures have different rules.
Fortunately, acting like an ####### isn't culturally excusable.
And if their culture is acting rude and not even bothering to learn acceptable behaviours of the places they visit, their culture is crap and should be changed.

It's fair to say that a country that has seen mass prosperity for only 20 years is going to be rougher and more sharp-elbowed than a country that has seen mass prosperity for more than 75 years. The Great Chinese Famine, that killed 45 million people, was just winding down when the first Bond movie was released in Canada. The Cultural Revolution, which saw millions of Chinese youths turn in their parents for imprisonment and torture, didn't end until 1976, the year before Star Wars hit the theatres.
A great many people alive in China today lived through, or are only one generation removed from, horrors that most Canadians can scarcely imagine.

I think it's a societal thing that shapes behaviour. In China, you're taught at a very young age that nice guys finish last, and you have to always fend for yourself if you want to get ahead in life. They have the mentality that you lose out to other people if you don't always look out for yourself first.
And unlike say the Japanese (who are super polite), I think Chinese people generally lack the discipline, as well the love for their country (ie Japanese always feel they don't want to bring shame to their country by behaving bad).
Might just be a side effect of having a communist government, I don't know. But I have seen state commercials and ads on educating Chinese people on proper etiquette. Not sure how effective it is though.
