Ugh! Little flaming C in my notifications bar got me all excited that 13 had signed.

This doesn't excite me

Doubt he makes the team, but not a bad idea to add a player or two on PTOs that have something to prove.

Nothing like an unmotivated guy on the ice to motivate the kids looking for jobs. I guess.

I'll be worried if Shinkaruk and Tkachuk can't earn a spot on the team over this guy. He was damaged goods in 2009 and has only gotten worse with age.

But if Shinkaruk or Tkachuck can't be better than a broken down Higgins in camp, then they aren't ready. I think they brought him in as the low man to beat.

Why not. Hopefully training camp/AHL fodder, but we are woefully weak on the wing right now.

I tire of this line of thinking. Higgins is washed up. They are already better than he is, the Flames shouldn't waste any of their efforts/attention on him. This is similiar to the Bork PTO, just not even worth a look IMO.

Ben Kuzma @benkuzma
Of all the PTOs, this one makes some depth sense. Gulutzan knows he's good on PK, sound defensively.

With the rumor that the Flames were shopping Bouma at the trade deadline, maybe looking at Higgins to replace Bouma at a much cheaper price?

Then there should be no reason for you to worry about him beating out Shinkaruk or Tkachuk besides realistically Higgins wouldn't even be competing for the same ice time as them unless you had them penciled in for 4th line and PK.

Big 'IF' but if Higgins can still play it may be worth it to sign him to a cheap one year deal to get rid of Bouma's contract.

I'm not worried, I just think it's pointless. None of these reclamation projects ever work, but at least it's a PTO and not a contract this time around.

I like veterans on pto's but he snubbed us didn't he? For the Canucks? I mean come on. I'll boo him every time he steps on the ice.

He snubbed the Flames for the Panthers.

Panthers traded him to the Canucks later that season.

I doubt very much that he has enough left in the tank or the body to make the team, but sure, why not? Competition for jobs is good.

To the talk of Shinkaruk or Tkachuk, that's pretty pointless IMO... Higgins will be fighting for a 4th line spot, nothing more.

Shinkaruk and/or Tkachuk are only making the team if they show that they can add to the top 9. Higgins is not a part of that discussion in any way.

Right. Higgins is dead to me. I hope Engelland gets a few shots in on him. Go for the shoulders.
