Sometimes throughout the year, they manage to come through a small crack around the door. Only a few get in at a time, buts It's disconcerting when you kill them, go back to what you were doing before, and they replaced again.

Haven't seen them for a while though. Do their numbers erupt around different parts of the city at other times? I think we were seeing them in the far NW late June or early July.

In our 10 years in Royal oak NW we've always seen the regular ants in garden & outside property.....

This was 1st time in these years my wife & I saw in backyard & garden in such large amounts of flying ants in thousands.

Maybe it has been before but we were not around to see the phenomenon.

They always pick a day in the summer where it is humid, no wind and generally overcast. One day and it's over.

I read up on it about 5 years ago. Some years are more than others.

We had a horrifying swarm yesterday at the side of our house. Broke out the RAID. So many of them are out at once, hopefully it put a major dent in their colony.

Back garden, I'd just leave it. But swarming around the doorjamb... DIE ANTS, DIE.

I was down close to the fish creek park train and there were swarms of birds across Macleod Trail and up towards the train station. It was definitely over a KM and in an L shape. It was fascinating to watch. I had no idea what was causing it until I got close to the train station and the sidewalks were covered with the ants. You couldn't avoid them.

No ants here in new Brighton. It is likely a coppeRfield oR Mackenzie towne problem.

Since it's been mentioned, I guess I'll add that I had ants coming and going through a crack in my front walk, but it was always small, and nothing to really care about. Last week (evening, after rain), I happened to go out to my truck for whatever, and the little ant mound was a disgusting mass of writhing ants growing wings. Suddenly there were 3-4 exits to the underground lair of Satan, and they were just crawling out, with wings, but they couldn't fly yet. I happened to have a can of Raid in the cupboard, so I grabbed it, and napalmed them. They kept crawling out, and I foamed them like a kid with silly string.

It was just nasty. Totally unexpected that the little ant hill that I decided not to care about suddenly became a spawning ground for what looked like Kent Brockman's worst nightmare. I figured it had something to do with all the rain. Flooded out or something? Whatever, they're all dead now.

Here in the armpit of the world flying ants seem to be kind of rare. However, they seem to seek me out. For whatever reason they terrify me. I almost burned my dads house down a few years ago trying to rid the world of a few more of them.
