They need a great communicator, someone who can teach the young talent... Mr. Dallas Eakins

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Article on the score says Hartley is linked t the job and they have a "3 reasons the Avs should not hire Hartley"
They shouldn't hire Hartley, but Roy has left them in a tough situation. I would have to presume most AHL and European coaches are under contract already. I also have no idea who else is available?
Ideally they want to sign a coach on a one year contract, so they can get thier man next off season. I'm not sure Hartely would even sign a one year contract and Av's ownership doesn't seem like the type to throw away money. I really wonder if they end up giving whoever their assistant/associate coach is the job.
Could the flames get a draft pick if the Avs wanted Hartley like the Canucks got from CBJ for Torts? Is that even a possibility? I don't know the rules.
if i was the coach of the avs i'd be willing to entertain the concept of a hartley hire. stretch pass, offense first, offense based on the rush may be something players like barrie, e. johnson, and the plethora of high level talent forward could to well with.
hartley had less offensive talented forwards but more mobile puck moving dmen to work with in calgary. Am curious if he could make do with more offensive talented forwards, but less puck moving dmen...
He'd also have arguably better goaltending than he had in CGY you'd have to think.
then you tie in his history with the org ,and sakic, where the concept of old boys club has been prevalent, i'd say it might be a reasonable short term choice, to get them back into a playoff bubble team.

Not anymore. That rule was quashed in the last CBA.

Sakic won a Cup playing with Roy, Forsberg, Blake, Bourque, Hejduk, Foote and Tanguay. Hartley was just there.
I was specifically responding to the post that said they weren't sure that the Avs would be interested in Hartley, by pointing out that the GM of the team won a Cup with Hartley as the coach.
I am quite familiar with the talent the Avs had during their heyday. They were my second favourite team in the league during that time, with Forsberg being my all-time favourite player and Roy my all-time favourite goalie.

If you think Roy left them in a tough situation, are you considering his dual role?
I read his statement as being a coach held accountable when his hockey ops position was of limited impact.
According to the Denver post, the Avs have sought permission to speak to Sharks assistant coach Bob Boughner, Blackhawks assistant coach Kevin Dineen, AHL head coach (Blue Jackets affiliate) Jared Bednar, AHL head coach (Canucks affiliate) Travis Green, Capitals assistant coach Lane Lambert, and Rangers associate coach Scott Arniel.

Are they really in that tough a situation? They have the same guys to pick from that the Flames did, absent GG. There are many coaches out there. I guess Roy was more than coach, although less than what he wanted to be apparently.

Yeah, based on the sureloss post, they have a decent group to choose from. Will likely improve in the coaching department with Roy gone. New guy will not likely carry such a huge ego and want to be too involved in the player personnel role (assuming they get a newish guy).
