How the hell does one rank ownership, and why does it even matter?

This is a glimpse of the kind of delirious homerism that will erupt all over Canadian media if the Leafs ever become good. All decent people should hope that never, ever happens.

The Score "Staff" that created this debacle should feel bad about themselves.

The Score, The Score... I mean, just ignoring this list and the Flames ranking I'm shocked they're still around in some capacity.

It survives from the clicks of disgruntled Flames fans every time it publishes a list like this.

In other words, Leafs mgmt talks to The Score, Flames do not.
I thought The Score only did apps now?

Just apps and the website. They kept the rights for an online presence when SN bought the channel.

The score shares the same owners as the Leafs.

How to rank is questionable. Pretty much should be a pass or fail though. Does ownership meddle with hockey ops is the only relevant question. Looking at Vancouver you can see that it does matter.

Apparently the Leafs rankings were 3, 11, 5, 1, 1.

That sounds pretty accurate actually. They do have a gangbuster farm system at present, Babcock is a great coach, ownership never seems to have an issue shelling out the dough, and I wouldn't argue with Lou & team being at 11. I notice however that "current roster" isn't on the criteria... if your gonna rank a team and (conveniently?) leave out the area where they're complete dog#### of course you'll get a high(ly undeserved) ranking.

In order to become the best franchise in the league, you must first become the last place team. Makes sense.

How is a list like this made without Chicago, LA and Pittsburgh as 1, 2 and 3? Is winning Stanley Cups not important to a franchise ranking?

I would tend to agree except that it is almost impossible to gauge the extent of involvement by owners in hockey ops for each team. Is Vancouver a bad team because their ownership meddles? Or is this a convenient excuse to help explain why Benning is such an awful GM?

Toronto is the only team in the top-10 that isn't a playoff team.
Pretty much tells you all you need to know about this ranking.

I doubt this is anyone of consequence. First, the rankings are humorous at best. These comedy is created by internet heroes from their basement. Taken seriously by the same. Garbage, but good for a laugh. Thanks for posting.

hahahahaha most teams get 3 lines of text. The leafs at 1 get 3 paragraphs.
Must be written by that guy laying on the lawn with some straw in his mouth.

OT, but I don't get the "internet heroes from their basement" sentiment/joke in 2016. Everyone has a phone or tablet. It's not just hardcore nerds who live with their parents who go online anymore. Not that it ever was, but it's even less so now.

I agree that it is really hard to pin down, but when you hear so many rumours there has to be something there, which is why it has to be a pass or fail rather then a ranking. Just impossible to gauge the amount of meddling that is happening. Maybe change the ranking system to happy or sad face.

In any event ranking ownership is a meaningless criterion for gauging franchise potential, with the exception of one or two teams.
