Well, hang on to that dream.
Plenty of good boating locations, swiming holes and fishing spots. But actual beaches? Keep going west

Is that Picton Beach? I used to go there every summer. Such a great beach.

Grand Beach, Manitoba. One of the best beaches I've been to in my life. I miss it so much. I hope it's still nice, Lester Beach is gone

I'm from the east and every time I've visited western Canada we've never had a chance to go to a beach.
We've got some nice beaches here too
Sandbanks/Picton is my favourite.

There is a tiny sliver of shoreline along Minnewanka that has some sand. Enjoy!

Ya, finding a good beach is a bit tough. There are some beautiful spots but the water can be really cold near Calgary. Finding a beach like the pic above won't be easy, I don't even know if it exists!
Little bow is alright but it is busy and they tend to have algae issues there when the water is low and hot. Not sure about this year.

What makes it one of the best you've been to? Have you travelled much outside of the prairies?

Little Bow is pretty bad. Drive an extra hour to Koocanusa.

Indeed I have.
The water was beautiful and warm in the summers. Clean. The beach sand was soft and white, no pebbles or twigs and other crap. The water also got fairly deep if you ventured out, a lot of the nice beaches in BC the water doesn't get very deep. Osoyoos is the warmest lake in Canada but the lake doesn't get very deep before you find yourself out with watercraft.
I'm not saying I'd rather spend a day at Grand Beach than Waikiki Beach, that's silly, but Grand Beach is fantastic.

Yeah, I think people who have only ever experienced beaches in B.C. don't realize how many beautiful beaches there are in the rest of Canada. Penticton and Osoyoos beat anything in Alberta. But they're nothing special compared to the beaches I've been to in Ontario, where you have fine sand going back 100 yards from the waterline, and waves crashing into the surf.

The thing about grand beach is the scenery - after a hot week in the city the beach is packed, and the eye candy is unbelievable.
Lake Winnipeg is not very deep ~100 feet, so it gets pretty warm. The sand is really nice as well.
I would have to think it is one of the top beaches in the prariares.

There are a number of good beaches in and around Vancouver. Here's White Rock.
