One could argue TJ Brodie should be on that list. He had a decent year in 2014-2015 but was still not on a lot of peoples radar. 2015-2016 from other telecasts I watched other than Sportsnet, he was talked about a lot by other analysts and also had a career year even with an injury to start.

Just my opinion though.

I too would put Brodie on that list, well before Backlund even. He clearly established himself as and up and coming legit #1D and might very well break into the top 10 D as early as next season.

Yes, it would. Trouble is, nobody knows who will break out next year. Sports journalists waste a lot of hot air on silly predictions, but that silly they don't care to be. They'd be in the same class as monkeys throwing darts, and they know it.

I thought Hornqvist really had a solid year and a breakout playoffs. He's always had the flashes but this past year I thought he out it all together with a nasty edge.
