At that level it comes down to bio-mechanics. Some people have a physiology that enables them to run 20+ km a day without sustaining repetitive stress injuries. Most people don't, no matter how much they practice. People who try ultra-marathons and adventure racing find out pretty quick which type they are.

You can learn to run. You might never have the form of an elite marathoner but you can correct a lot things that can help you run faster, farther and most importantly injury free. Hire a run coach. People hire skating coaches, swim coaches, gold or tennis coaches. You can hire a run coach to work on your form.

We're pretty active I guess. In the summer I mountain bike (probably 2-3x a week and I race the BC Cup DH circuit) and hike/scramble whenever I can. My wife runs and is currently training for the Las Vegas marathon this fall. The kids spend lots of time outside running around and riding their bikes, although our middle son would definitely be a couch potato if we let him. Winters we go skating a lot (we live in a lake community so it's very convenient) and last year we bought a family season's pass to Nakiska and skied/snowboarded pretty much every weekend.

My oldest has started playing pokemon go but that just means he's out traipsing around the neighborhood even more than usual and I have no problem with it. Myself I have no desire to try it.

6 out of 10 maybe? I have a very physical job these days, and when I'm off shift I try and run 5k 3 times a week. Wife recently renewed her gym membership and does that 6 days a week usually. 5 year old is always in a sport, either hockey, soccer or baseball depending on the time of year.

BUT. When we're home we are absolute vegetables. I'll sit on my computer for hours, son gets a few hours of screen time a day and my wife is addicted to stupid reality shows

Every work day, I run. I purposely get off the bus far away from home and run. I was at 6.5km for a few weeks, but have been feeling better and started to increase to 9km and 10km. I think I could do more if the routes near my home were flatter, but that's the NW for you. Strangely, it's not my legs that are sore, once I am warmed up, I feel great. it's my arms that I feel are going to fall off. Today I was excited though, as I managed to get my little 10km trophy on Strava and got a few good times on some segments. I will probably keep doing this until it gets too cold in the morning to wear shorts.

After I get showered and have dinner, we go out as a family for a walk around the surrounding neighbourhoods, and on weekends we try to do some longer hikes in the mountains, or urban strolls along the Nose Creek pathway.

We used to have our kids in more activities, but we have started narrowing down to the ones they genuinely enjoy, which is mainly swimming. This is unfortunate, because I don't enjoy swimming in pools.

I'm the same way.

I'll play hockey a few times a week, soccer, golf, go to the gym 5 times a week. But if I am ever at home I just do nothing haha.

What else would you do at home? Run around?

I like to bike about 100-120km a week, and run 15-20km a week.

Usually that is 2 bike rides, and 3 runs a week.

I am getting my 3 year old daughter into running now. Apparently there are 1km races you can put your kids into.
