Wow. Panthers were 2nd? Remember when they used to be the laughing stock of the league and the management was in shambles?
As for the Flames, I think people would give the management more credit if there were better on-ice results. It's pretty interesting that the 5th worst team last year managed to have a management group ranked in the middle of the league. I think if we were to make the playoffs this year the ranking would probably shoot up.

There are very few words to describe how bad the Taylor Hall trade was, so it’s no surprise the team is the 28th ranked for trading. Actually, it’s a surprise they weren’t ranked lower. What is surprising is that 12.4 percent of people have gained confidence in this management group over the last year. Was it that bad before that the group that traded Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson is better in comparison?

The Flames are pretty good at drafting. Look at all of thesw guys, playing for the Flames after being drafted by them:
Monahan
Gaudreau
Brodie
Bennett
Wotherspoon
BacKHLund
Not all of those guys were BT and BB, but still.

Only one of those guys was BT/BB, and that's Bennett who was a no brainer at 4th overall.
Sutter: Giordano (FA signing out of CHL), Backlund, Brodie, Bouma, Ferland
Feaster: Gaudreau, Wotherspoon (on the bubble)
Treliving: Bennett
There are also (IMO) a few guys in the pipeline from Feaster and Treliving who will be NHLers, some of them really good ones too, but only time will tell.

Yeah Arizona, Leafs, and Carolina are way too high. Has it really got to the point where tanking, finishing 30th overall, and picking 1st overall is worthy of congratulations and high confidence in management? Embarrassing.

If the Flames didn't finish where they did and made the playoffs they probably would have had a bit higher ranking in this poll maybe 12th.
But then having the Red Wings at 21 is absurd.

Many on this board took it as a sign that they're finally starting to do something right, more than 12% I'd guess.
And yes, at some point there is no way to go but up.

If the Hartley firing ends up being a flop like many are worried about then you will see that number dip big time IMO

The canucks management team is headed by someone who can only be described as strange and apparently stupid, but let's not get confused. The oilers are the worst team ever anywhere playing anything. 80 percent of their managers who were declared too dumb to work for them continue to work for them, and the newest addition got absolutely raked on his back 2 biggest trades and has spent nearly 100 million dollars on lucic and sekeras. One can only guess how he'll look creaming the next dummy's coffee.

Actually, I'm not sure that's wrong. At least the Wings part.
I've been tracking overall organizational efficiency for a couple years. One of the ways I've done this is by tracking total points each team earns each year and then looking at the average point that team has earned since the beginning of the 30 team league (2000-01 season). Detroit is far and away the best team in the league by that metric, averaging 103.5 points per season.
However, another thing that I did recently was to compile a 3 season rolling average of total points (meaning the average of 2005-06, 2006-07 & 2007-08 seasons, followed next by the average of 2006-07, 2007-08 & 2008-09, etc.). By taking rolling averages, it single season variations where a team finished way higher or lower than they should have.
Here's Detroit's 3 season averages since the lockout:
2005-08: 117.3
2006-09: 113.3
2007-10: 109.7
2008-11: 106.0
2009-12: 102.7
2010-13: 100.6
2011-14: 96.9
2012-15: 96.2
2013-16: 95.3
Detroit is a sinking ship. No other team comes close to this level of steady decline year after year. Even Edmonton has occasionally seen an increase in their total point rolling average.
Based on this data, I don't have much confidence in Ken Holland. I doubt they will make a GM change until they start missing the playoffs, but they will probably start missing the playoffs soon unless Holland makes some drastic changes.
If I can figure out a way to make all my data (along with the graphs) available in a Google Spreadsheet, I'll do that.
