Sorry, but there is no reason for me why Monahan shouldn't have anything more than $6.3m. Anything in the $5.9m-$6.3m is his value compared to his peers. Get him in that ball park please Brad.

That seems like the right price for Monahan, but low for Gaudreau.

But maybe they can be buddies and just take the same deal anyway.

Monahan = 8 x $6.25 million ($50 million total) UFA 2024 @ 30
Gaudreau = 6 x $6.75 million ($40.5 million total) UFA 2022 @ 29

My guess is Gaudreau will take a shorter deal and lose out on some AAV because of it.

Yes, but MacKinnon signed a 7 year deal. If Monahan signs 8, that's an extra year they are buying of UFA.

Not unusual for a goal scorer to get paid more than a playmaker. Would expect Monahan to get $6.3M, but would not be surprised if he gets a little more than Mackinnon

Default Avs re-sign MacKinnon to 7 year deal ($6.3 mil AAV)

I'd still be delighted with matching 6.75x8 deals for Monahan and Gaudreau

considering Tarasenko makes 7.5, I'd be surprised to see Gaudreau come in under that whatsoever

Monahan: 8 years x $6.250M = $50 Million Total
Gaudreau: 7 years x $7.14M = $50 Million Total

Matching total values for both guys but Gaudreau gets a year less in term. Takes both players to the age of 29 and still under 30 for their next contract negotiation. Also staggers the years that the players hit UFA for the Flames sake.

Put pen to paper and get this done.

Apparently my original 7x7 estimate was high for John and and Sohn, especially given today's contract values

I still think Monahan should and likely will be paid more AAV than Gaudreau. So if these deals more or less settle Monahan's market value, Gaudreau is looking at much less AAV than most of the GMs on this site would pay him.

I think we need some new bar descriptions on the HERO charts. Things like Best Hair, Eating Habits, # of Parties/Week, Toasting Skills, Interviewing Skills, Best Instagram etc

I'd say you were being the black sheep then.

Monahan is going to get crushed. Unless dry and straight cut is the pinnacle. Then bring out the Brinks trucks

But he more than makes up for it in toasting skills.

I was expecting Monahan to get the same deal as what Mckinnon would eventually get, so this is a fair price for both guys IMO. Lets see if Treliving joins the party in the next couple of days with his announcements.

I think today's signings helped our case. I would try to sign Johnny to 8 as he is very marketable in the states . Boston, Det and Philly would pay a lot more to get him.
