Lots of deadwood, I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. Usually they keep players around to provide some continuity in their AHL team.

Pascal mentioned that they think Pribyl can play center, my bet is he gets a shot.
I also recall someone saying that Pollock might get a look at center as well.
Management will also probably sign some AHL guys and/or NHL two ways like Derek Grant last year.

Too bad the Flames couldn't bring him back. He had size, decent speed, and most importantly was good in the faceoff circle. Of all the problem areas the Flames have had the past couple of years, the one they consistently fail to even attempt to address is their terrible faceoff performance.
I though Grant was a guy who could come in and win the 4th line C, faceoff specialist role.

Not really, I mean the guy is only one year younger than Backlund.
I think what you see is what you get.

I liked what I saw and got. Thought 4C would have been perfect for him but I guess we're planning other things and Stajan/Bollig are still sucking up spots.

I can't remember, was Grant the guy Brent Burns or Thornton complimented after a game for his energy and play? Or was it Hathaway?

Hathaway
That's why it's interesting seeing few roster predictions with him not in it.

Agreed. He is a Jason Krog.

We keep losing what look to be solid, cheap NHL depth players due to having too many over priced depth veterans.
Schlemko last year, Grant this year, and probably Nakladal this year too. Smid, Stajan, Wideman and Engelland are great for veteran leadership during a rebuild I'm sure, but it will be nice when these contracts are off the books and potentially cheaper better options quit walking out the door.

Ya this is a head scratcher. Not sure why we didn't keep him on a similar deal.
If he wanted a one way than Ya let him go but he's a great depth guy to keep in your organization.

Yeah, last year's AHL team was not the kind of thing anybody wants to provide continuity with.

I hear you but not sure Hathaway is good enough to make anyone expendable. Agree with you on losing all those vets. Not ideal.

Oh no we lost Grant. Now who will we pretend makes the veterans on this team are completely replaceable?

Darren Haynes suggested Grant didn't want to come back due to our centre depth in the NHL. Wanted a shot elsewhere.

This almost reminds me of the time we let Jason Morgan go.

Makes sense, isn't that why he signed here in the first place
Buffalo's centre depth is pretty good too though

Yeah that's a good point.
Eichel, Ennis, Girgensons, McCormick, O'Reilly, and Reinhart all listed.
I believe Reinhart played wing last season mostly, but still Grant probably has a harder path to the NHL with the Sabres.

Flames does not have any spot for Derek Grant that's why he bolted. He shouldn't be playing as a 4th line centre and he knew the Flames are already set with Monahan, Bennett and Backlund as #1, 2 and 3 centre respectively. Grant will never produce the wy he produced in Stockton by playing with less minutes and players with less likely to score points. I knew as soon as he became a UFA, he's gone. He might get a chance to play as a 3rd line centre in Buffalo.
