$2.5/year might be a lot for most 4th liners, but Martin is arguably one of the best at that role.
I like the signing for the Leafs.

I can't believe how much these muckers get overvalued on July 1st.

Good signing for the Leafs. He'll be a great fit on that roster.

Doesn't 2 of the 3 guys who make up our 4th line both make more than this (Stajan and Bollig)?

Stajan $3.125
Bollig $1.250

Unless you meant Bouma who makes $2.200

So, no.

People complain about the Bouma contract and then want Matt Martin for even more money.

Personally, I don't have much issue with Bouma's contract. My biggest problem with Bouma is his inability to stay healthy. He's a little overpaid even if he could stay healthy.

Matt Martin is bigger than Bouma, hits more than Bouma, and unlike Lance, Martin stays healthy.

I would pay $2.5 per year to have that guy on my team. He's a 4th liner, but he doesn't just take up space and kill 10-12 minutes. He actually makes a positive difference for his team.

Ah thanks for clarifying. Probably shouldn't throw stones then given we have Stajan making more on our 4th line.

Didn't know Bollig was so cheap. Makes me wonder why people complain so much about a guy that has really zero impact on the teams cap!

Then we have Hathaway, Tkachuk, Shinkaruk and maybe guys like Mangiapane, Pribyl and Poirier with possible shots at making the team. We can't debate the quality of the group, but we don't lack numbers.

We're done imo.
I agree Flames are done with signing free agent wingers. I think Brouwer and Chiasson will take the first or second line RW spot. Unless a young RW like Shinkaruk. Mangiapane or Pribyl have a great training camp and shows they belong in the NHL. If one of those young guys impresses the coaching staff then I ca see Chiasson playing in the 4th line. Frolik stays on the 3rd so basically they'll just fill out the 4th line spot with some of the veterans they have or bring someone young to learn the system.

This signing makes little sense to me. The Leafs have plenty of young players in the AHL who aren't projected to be Top 9 but could easily fill this role on the 4th line. Don't see the point of wasting the roster spot on him.

But in the end it's not a big deal. It's a very tradeable contract.
