GM's fighting each other for the opportunity to shoot themselves in the face.

I don't mind it. A couple years more than would be best but a reasonable contract. He actually played mostly with Nielsen -- I'd have to say that Eichel and O'Reilly are better players than him, so I'd see no reason why his numbers couldn't stay the same.

Was this really a necessary signing for this team? I don't like this player at all.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
$25 million of Kyle Okposo's $42 million contract in Buffalo will be paid out in signing bonus. More details coming on the breakdown.

Canucks buddy trolling me about this deal.

Says if Okposo gets this kind of deal, imagine what Monny and JG are going to demand...

Saying look at all the $6mil deals handed out for middle of the road forwards, JG and Monny will want $8x8 each..

No, it's not better for taxes. It's because of the time value of money. It's better to have it up front so that you can earn returns on it.

The signing bonuses still come on an annual basis; it's not $25M up front (they can't even do that). Some places in the states class bonus income differently than regular - such is the rumour with stamps in Florida. Not sure if it applies in ny

I really, really wanted Okposo in Calgary, but I am really glad that we didn't go after him at that price.

Deep down, I knew a deal like that was going to be necessary, but held out hope that Treliving could work his magic. Oh well.
