6 years for a 30 year old with concussion history, pass. Won't be a bad deal this year but after that yikes.

They did, but when you consider the rest of that roster, what can they hope for except to move from 7th to 5th or 6th in the Pacific next year?

This move signals that Benning actually thinks the Canucks will contend within a year or two. He's rather optimistic, imo.

Yeap, hopefully he's enough to drag the Canucks away from drafting near the top and turning things around much quicker.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Okposo, Ladd and Eriksson contracts all heavily front loaded. Signing bonus beyond 50% of total in each case.

Yikes. He was in decline until last season.

This is a terrible deal. History of concussions and he was trending down until he hit a contract year. Love this deal from a Flames perspective.

The Canucks are officially "A Weekend at Bernie's."

This top line of the Sedins and Eriksson, which I think will be insanely good, will wind up dragging the rest of the team's long-dead corpse around.

This is exactly why it's great news. Vancouver heading in the wrong direction again. Benning is basically Clyde from any which way but loose.

pre-2013 Flames = current Canucks.

Keeping the no man's land dream alive. Not good enough for playoffs, not bad enough for lottery. Getting dragged through the mud by guys in their career twilights.

Collection of prospects not good enough to become difference makers.

Wow. I mean, I like Eriksson and all, but did Dim Jim even try and negotiate? Did he offer Louie the cash from the second mortgage on his house too?

wasn't Eriksson absolutely spectacular for Sweden on a line with the Sedins in various tournaments? I think it was him.

That's true.
Should help their 29th ranked offense.

Sure, sign him until he's 37 years old. Should work just fine. No problems here.

What a bad team.

Yes, and hopefully he can help them win a few games.

Eriksson is yet another player that Brouwer has outscored over the last 5 years.

This signing makes me very happy.

and yes, Vancouver is a mess.

Hate the length, but I do like that he will finally be playing with the Sedins in the NHL.

honest question, do you think the Sedins will stay longer then the 2 years left on their current contracts?

Yes, and they'll start de-aging too.

That's good because i'm pretty sure playing on those Vancouver teams of the last few years has taken years off their lives.
