For all of us who said we'd drive Raymond to the airport, how do we figure out who does it? It'd just be silly if we all did, and then he'd have to change cars every few metres. It would also delay him in getting out of town. Should we hold a lottery maybe?

Now if we could get news on Wideman leaving the Flames, this would be an early xmas present

I mean, yeah, this had to happen. No future for Raymond in this organization. Now we can use his cap space usefully.

Brad will likely be more careful with contract length for UFAs, especially reclamation ones like Raymond.

####ty.

Hate to see a guy that wanted nothing more but to play for the Calgary Flames forced out like this.

Thought he would get another shot with GG.

In case anyone was wondering:

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Regarding Smid, two weeks ago Treliving said he wasn't healthy and can't buyout an injured player. So TBD with him.

couldn't they just put him in the minors and save 900K this season anyway?
are they that tight with their plans that the extra 1.2M is a big deal?
or ... do they feel he would be a distraction to the farm team? I noticed he was a scratch for most of the end of the season down there last year.

I think this tends to point towards us adding some more money this year. Not an awful lot of reason to buyout Raymond unless you intend to make use of the salary cap space that it frees up this season, otherwise you're needlessly adding 1M to the team's salary cap next season.

Wideman doesn't have to go onto waivers to be bought out but Raymond does.

They could just think it is the fair thing for the player as well.

Don't bury him another season - let him try to continue or rebuild his career somewhere else.

Plus the owners save real money. More cap space, fair to Raymond, real money savings. Bit of a no brainer really.

Yeah, take a 2.2 cap hit while paying him his full salary and sending him to the AHL or loaning him to Europe

IMO, they are going to be a cap team this year after signing Johnny and Mony to their long term deals and probably going after a legitimate 1st line RW.

But other than that, there's zero purpose to keeping Mason Raymond around if you aren't willing to keep guys like Colborne, Jooris, Arnold, etc. If you don't see how he can help your team now or in the future, move him along, especially if it saves you cap space and doesn't hurt you long term.
