We have 2. One in our bedroom has a piece of weed between the drawers broken.
The one in our sons room has the front of the drawer ripped completely off.
Perfect timing for a recall, assuming we'll still get money/credit back even if damaged.

Sounds like they broke after they tipped over

I was just in Ikea and the return people informed me the following:
1. They can send someone to install than anti-tipping device for free
2. You can get the anti-tipping device if you want to install it yourself
3. Return it to the store. However, the full refund only applies if you have the receipt. They will only give you the lowest sale price if you don't have the receipt.
Hope this helps!

I was hoping they'd send someone to pick it up. Damned thing is quite heavy and not worth the hassle of finding a way to transport it back to the store as is.

I just install a french cleat on the back of these dressers and the bookcases I bought from Ikea. That's plenty strong to keep anything on the wall.

I think what he was saying is craptacular dressers can kill toddlers. However, ultimately its up to parents to prevent their offspring from being killed from craptacular dressers, hence the Darwin remark.
Ikea realized some of their dresses are a bit hazardous if not bolted into a brick wall and are now avoiding further litigation down the road. I would be curious to know how much they have given up so far in settlements

Wow, based on the demo they showed on the news tonight, it stuns me that any reasonablely intelligent parent could assemble this thing and then not see how easy these things tip over

Oh, it is absolutely the parent's responsibility to supervise. But I took the comment as a kid doing something unsafe is a Darwin award candidate, which is not really fair as kids that age don't know any better.

Read a report saying that, without a receipt, you only get the lowest sale price. Anyone returned theirs yet that can provide more details?

I've had these tip over on my kid before. They're crap, like all ikea stuff. Once I get these out of my house, I'll have one last ikea item.

I took two of these dressers back to ikea last night. We had a tall 6 drawer and a 4 drawer version. I left the drawers intact but took apart frame and threw it all in our SUV... Loaded up three shopping carts when I got there. There is one piece in each that was date stamped, that's all they looked at, I had left the drawers on the left side of the return area.
I don't recall what I paid as they were 10 years old, the 4 drawer came up at $120 and the 6 drawer $150. Asked if I wanted debit return or a gift card, said debit, then they offered 20% more if I took a gift card. I accepted the gift card which ended up being $340.
Pretty painless and didn't ask any questions.
