i guess a QO guarantees a higher salary. flames probably want to sign these guys at a better deal than the qualifying offer. makes sense.

Not surprised about Colborne. His arbitration potential + the acquisition of Chaisson sealed his fate. Likely had no trade value because if the Flames are uneasy about the potential of a $3.9m award for Colborne, so is the rest of the league.

Wow! Guess the trade market on Colborne was cool seeing they are willing to risk losing him. Not overly surprised about the rest.

Only Jooris, Colborne and Ortio to be negotiated out of the rest.

According to Treliving on The Fan: Still pursuing contracts with Colborne, Jooris, and Ortio but didn't want to risk arbitration.
Sounds like the rest will be cut loose.

Wow. Cleaning house. Colborne asking for too much, or is there some CBA reason not to qualify him?
I thought Arnold would be given another go. Just his third pro season, no?
Ortio, I would have liked to see him get another shot with a full season of back up duty and no three-headed monster BS. Thought he was excellent in the latter half.

So six guys are done then.
Arnold
Shore
Agostino
Elson
Poulin
Van Brabant
Unless they sign any of them to AHL deals.

Taking the farm system in a different direction? That's a lot of vets.

Not surprised they didn't qualify all the farm guys. None of them project that highly in terms of ceiling, not going to lose out by letting them go.

I think Colborne is going to re-sign before free agency still
I'm surprised with Ortio and Arnold not being qualified but this doesn't mean they won't be back. I expect Arnold, Agostino and Elson to be on the Heat again next year on AHL deals

I like it. This is how you reduce salaries. Get rid of the dead weight and guys who may cost more than you are comfortable with.
