I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Ramo in a backup role.

I still want Ortio, this upcoming season is his best chance to show what he's got.

We're paying less for Elliott now who is a far better goaltender than we paid Ramo for that steaming pile of dog poo of a season last year. Let Ramo go...

I'd be alright with Ramo in a backup role, but isn't his injury supposed to last well into the fall? If we're keeping anyone I say Ortio.

I'd prefer to roll with Ortio as the backup. The upside there is a legit starter with some more development. He's trending slightly ahead of his age / pay contemporaries:

If he's coming in at 2.5 I bet we can extend at 4.0 for 2 years.

I think the Flames will test the waters to see if any really good deals are available. If they can't find one, Ortio makes a good backup.

Elliott is a vet who still has something to prove.

I would prefer a younger understudy as opposed to a career back-up.

Anything but a three headed monster at training camp is good for me.

Not sure if Ortio endeared himself to the bosses when he balked at a minor league assignment.

Elliot hasn't played a full season yet and the most he played was 55 games in 09-10 with Ottawa and his save percentage was .909. I think Ortio or whom ever plays backup (or 1B) will get lots of playing time. The last 3 years for Elliot have been great (avg. 0.923ish) but I think that's because of the smooth skating of Bouwmeester.

Hutton can certainly carry 25-30 games.
I think his value after the announcement of expansion increased his value to almost nothing to minimal. I think that a team that wants to deal a goalie because of the expansion draft may like Ortio because is can play in the NHL and is unlikely to be taken in an expansion draft.

Unless I am mistaken, Ortio signed a 2 year deal - first year 2 way, second year 1 way. Therefore last year was subjected to waivers, and more of a victim of the 3 goalie situation.

If anything, Ortio could be sour on the Flames for settling the expectation on career path and screwing up by signing both Ramo and Hiller when he was sitting with a 1 way.

On the other hand, he can't have too much attitude because the 3 headed monster situation did not give him the opportunity to demonstrate his ability to succeed in the 1 way year.

Odd situation. Personally, if I was Ortio, I would probably be looking hard at somewhere else as he may perceive that the Flames reneged on an understanding and this situation threw his career in to limbo. But the tough part is finding another team that wants to take him on. This is part of the job of the agent. Out of respect for Ortio, I hope his agent works as hard as Tre.

Jee, looking up some info on Montoya and Hutton and they're pretty much the same goalie. Although I feel Hutton may be a little more driven to make an impact as he's been riding behind Rinne for so long. But that's just me making up excuses in all likelyhood.

The smooth skating dazzled the opponents. And soothed Elliott. Really settled him down.

A bit of a long shot, but I would like to see Treliving target Grubauer out of Washington. The guy puts up numbers every where he goes, won't get to play a ton behind Holtby, and he might be a target in the expansion as Washington will protect Holtby.
