Yotes wont spend to the cap anyway so its useless space to them...they move up, draft one of the top rated d-men and don't pay the salary

Doesn't matter, Datsyuk's cap hit was handcuffing the Wings.
The picks alone match the cost of trading up.
They helped Detroit out for nothing.

Guys, if Datsyuk doesn't go to training camp, they suspend him and don't pay him a cent. Datsyuk isn't going to Arizona.
This was a freebie by Arizona. I don't know how you can look at it any other way.

Yeah this seems like an ok deal for Yotes. If they were high on Chychrun paying a 2nd rounder, that wasn't even theirs, seems shrewd.
Datsyuk is ok for them too as they don't mind the cap hit.

I want to be a 27 year old GM that uses the northern and southern hemisphere flush to build my team.

Doesn't matter? Come on SureLoss.
Bickell will be paid $4,500,000 by Carolina.
Datsyuk will be paid $0 by Arizona. Arizona also gets rid of Vitale's $1,300,000.00 contract.
Detroit may have been handcuffed, but the team is in a different conference. Arizona can literally move up for "free" (no the 52nd pick isn't enough) or try and handcuff another team that they don't compete with. It was an easy decision.

Keller and Chychrun could be two home runs for the Coyotes

Yes the 52nd pick is enough. Look at the history of moving up in the mid 1st round. That is about the going rate.
They helped a team out of salary cap jail for nothing. That is a bad move.

Looking at NHL draft pick values with various sources, it seems like 20th and 53rd would have been enough to move to 16th on its own. By that logic you've moved Vitale (basically an AHLer/contract spot) for Datsyuk.
I suppose Holland basically talked down the newbie GM in that the value of having Datsyuk's caphit is equal to the value of Detroit getting rid of it.

I agree. There is seemingly a drop off in the 2nd round as well, so giving up a 2nd rounder isn't all that bad, especially(as you said) one that wasn't there's.
Wouldn't forget Joe Vitale either. He was under contract for next year at $1.3m. The Coyotes shed themselves of that deal nicely here.

how is it a bad move? Maybe Detroit wouldn't move otherwise and they think they just got the steal of the draft.
And maybe they're laughing because now they hit their cap target.

The Coyotes are in cap and budget jail themselves. Getting to the floor while adding as little salary in possible is the reality they live in. That's why they're going to have two players contributing to their cap that they aren't paying.
Arizona needed Datsyuk's contract about as much as Detroit needed to shed it.

Vitale played a single game last year because of his injuries. He's a question to play again, similar to Smid. He's got $1,300,000 owed.
Arizona saved money and moved up spots. It's a homerun for them, given the team's situation. The team literally saved over a million dollars, moved up in the 1st round, and aren't any worse off. It's a literal no downside, all upside trade.
It's the definition of a win-win trade.

For who? Not for the Coyotes, who are in the West, with Detroit being in the East. The only teams groaning at this should be every team in the East bar Detroit. Doubt any of the West batted an eyelash.

Coyotes didn't really get worked - they were never going to use that cap space anyway, and this is $7+ in real money that they don't have and now don't need to spend.
Meanwhile, Ken Holland now owes this 26 year old kid a favor. Ask Kevin Lowe how far being a dink to the other GMs gets you. It's like people don't realize there are 29 other men you have to deal with in order to improve your team - you don't get to be a vindictive troll in a vacuum like on the internet.

They are likely going to make the floor even without Datsyuk. They still have multiple RFA d-men they need to sign, Doan, and a few UFAs to fill out the roster. They really didn't need Datsyuk's contract to reach the floor.

The Vitale info sells me a little to your point of view, it still feels like to me they could have gotten much more for taking on Datsyuk's contract.
