MIN made a big mistake with their Vanek and Pominville deals. You don't want to overpay inconsistent goal scoring wingers, least important position in hockey. Easy to grab these goal scoring wingers as they are the first casualties when a team needs to axe somebody to fix their cap problems.

And this is why I prefer to draft centres, d-men or powerforwards high.

Come on man there are overpaid duds at every position and if it was so easy to find scoring wingers Treliving wouldn't be busting his hump all week to move up in the draft to get a winger he covets.

In Vanek's defence, he did the Wild a real solid by not signing a 6-7 year contract like most thought he would at the time. A 3 year deal was a real good gamble on Minny's part. Having to buy out the remainder of his contract in year 3 with only 1 year left IMO is a huge bullet dodged.
