I'll try and get this in early, so we can head off some of the madness of the day. Here is what a $71M budget looks like. Keep this in mind as you try and piece together trades and start thinking acquisitions.

$7M-$7M-$5M
$3M-$5M-$3M
$2M-$3M-$2M
$1M-$1M-$1M
$.75M-$.75M

$7M-$5M
$4M-$3M
$2M-$1.5M
.75M

$5M
$1M

The Flames have these numbers already plugged in.

Forwards ($21.2M, but expected to grow by $16-18M)
Gaudreau (RFA) - Monahan (RFA) - Colborne (RFA)
Raymond ($3.15M) - Bennett ($.925M) - Frolik ($4.3M)
Ferland ($.825M) - Backlund ($3.575M) - Jooris (RFA)
Bouma ($2.2M) - Stajan ($3.15M) - Bollig ($1.25M)
Shikaruk ($.863M) - Prybil ($.925)

Defense ($29.7M)
Giordano ($6.75M) - Hamilton ($5.75M)
Brodie ($4.6M) - Wideman ($5.25M)
Engelland ($2.917M) - Jokipakka ($.900M)
Smid ($3.5M)

Goaltenders ($0 committed)
$5M
$1M

So with the expected raises to our RFAs, we are at around $70M, with no goaltenders committed. Don't forget to include a couple million in buffer space to deal with injuries and such (count on Smid's contract as that buffer IMO). Keep that in mind as the hype gets rolling and thoughts of $6-7M goaltenders start getting bounced around.

Let the games begin!

Thanks for the breakdown New Era.

I cannot wait until Raymond, Wideman, and Stajan are off the books. You can't be paying your 4th line centre and AHL fodder 6.5 million dollars in a cap world. I think Stajan can still be an NHL player but that contract looks pretty bad.

Probably eating breakfast or brushing his teeth like a mere human.

There should be at least three more Flames rumours out there by now...

My not so bold prediction - the first 10 picks will be made by the teams that currently own their rights. There will be 2 or 3 middling trades - no blockbusters. Flames trade for Elliot - CP not happy

Does anyone know how much preamble there will be before the first pick after the 5pm start time? Or I guess, when does the clock officially start on TO to make their pick?

I'm off at 5pm and I'm trying to see if I should leave work a few mins early if they pick right at 5pm.

I hope they don't, like Guido the Gimlet of Ghent, ride madly off in all directions.

The Flames seem to be in on almost every rumor out there. It's going to be anticlimactic when they pick sixth.

If the flames overpay for a name-brand big-money goaltender I'll be livid. The flames have been doing an excellent job stockpiling assets and building a core through savvy drafting and trades. I have all the faith in the world in Tre. It's been nice to follow the flames lately and not have to worry about what the gm is doing.

Yes, the Oilers made their way to the stage at about 5:15. It might be a little later this year since the Leafs aren't old veterans at it like the Oilers.

Crap, no cable subscription on my Rogers account.

Could it be potentially on Rogers Gamecentre?

I feel bad for Treliving. After he blew everyone away with the Hamilton trade last year his expectations are pretty high. It's going to be much harder to impress this year.
