I think if Juolevi is there at 6 he's a Flame.
Burke mentioned several times that you take the best player available & if you deem it's a tie you go with the defenceman first.
In every interview I've ever heard him give for every organization he's ever worked for he has consistently & repeatedly described building a hockey team from the defence out.
Yes we have 3 high quality dman currently signed to long term desks, but the draft is for 2 or 3 years from now, not September.
He hired Treliving, so I would believe Brad aligns with this thought process.
It's easier to trade a quality dman for a quality winger than a winger for a dman.
Yes it may be easier to project a quality winger earlier in the draft but Juolevi would be the first dman selected, which is hard to screw up (unless you're the Oilers, they'll find a way).
I am constantly amazed by mck drafts and predictions that project players based on organizational need, when few go this route. It's a drafting strategy that is a moving target. It can be done but it is higher risk in the first round because essentially it goes against the scouting & ranking process.
