I'm open to it all, except for trading that 6th pick for a goalie.

I think they move - preferably up but failing that then down. Fully expect our first pick to be a right wing.

I'd love to move up, I just don't see it happening. I think CBJ is counting on someone offering something crazy like 3 + cap dump for 6 plus high ranked prospect or youngster (like Bennett) and I just don't see any non-Oilers GMs taking the bait.

I want to see an exciting trade but the odds are that picking at 6 is the real result.

Most years, that's how it plays out: hope someone massively overpays and if not, just keep the pick

Columbus is in a very different situation however:

They have 4 terrible contracts, some with NMCs
They're squeezed tot eh cap and have no room to sign Jones
They are apparently not as big on Puljujarvi as other teams are
They need to replace Johanson at C

It's not just that it makes sense for them, they really kind of need to

I would like them to trade up but only if the price is right. Realistically, they make the pick.

How devastating would it be for Bettman to approach the podium after Winnipeg to announce a trade... only for #3 to go to someone like Arizone or Buffalo?

everyone needs to prepare themselves that we're picking 6.

IF, and it's a big IF, we move up, that'd be super awesome. But prepare for #6

This would be the killer. No deal? Fine. A deal with Buffalo or Arizona? And then the top 5 go as expected?

Much sadness.

Hoping against hope we move up, so that's what I'll say.

I'm leaning towards the Flames trading down. Some team will really want a player and ensure they get him instead of being happy with a group of players at their pick.

I think if we do trade down 3-5 picks there is a good chance that with the additional 2nds we already possess and what-ever is gained by trading down will be combined in a package to move back into the late first. Much like we moved back into the 2nd to get Chilly last year.

Note though, the other teams behind us also see the same ledge of good players we do so trading down will be tough. As has already been mentioned, it is likely so someone can get their preference of "D" or else because they are blowing their wad on the big "C" Brown.

6th is a solid position to be in. My body is ready for 6th.

I don't mind picking 6, but I think it would be soooooo anti climactic if the Flames end up making all 3 2nd round picks!

That would mean leaving Buffalo with neither a (potential) top line RW, or a goalie.

I don't mind Reimer, but I think with the assets available the Flames, they can do better.

Flames have room to take on a NMC forward
From what I've added up we are up against the cap as it is with the RFAs and goalie we need to pay. If we take on a NMC forward we need to be able to trade Wideman or do some buy outs. Not impossible by any means but not simple either.

Need to play the odds here. They'll make the pick.

I hope I'm wrong though. All in for #3!
