I prefer Pickard (possibly in exchange for moving down from 6th to 10th) and signing Reimer for around $4 million AAV for 3 or 4 years.

I think that gives the most bang for the buck and is also the least risky.

All the big name, big price veterans scare me with their injury history, contract term, age, and cost.

I hope BT planned these leaks to show to other teams the choice for the Flames are plentiful. Hopefully drives down the asking prices.

I personally like the idea of Varlamov more than Fleury or Bishop. Less of a stop gap, shouldn't cost a ton in a trade. And with the way Colorado has been trading lately...

If Gillies emerges as a starter in 2-3 years, it shouldn't be hard to trade Varlamov.

If they improve on shots again, Varlamov could be a top goalie in the league?

But the Flames actually were in the top-third of the League last season in shots against. Their goaltending was really, really awful. Unconscionably bad.

Pickard would be amazing. Varly is a good 2nd place prize

I'd be OK with trading down to #10 to get Varlamov, especially if we could still end up snagging Keller there.

Why plant the leaks? Just start as many discussions as you can to generate legitimate concern that you have plenty of options. Even if you aren't interested in a particular guy, ask anyway! No need to make stuff up. The market is definitely in our favour.

Keller, one of the Jost, McLeod and Gauthier might not be a reach at #10 either. Lots of options. Heck, Nylander could still drop to #10.

Out of all the options to go out and trade for a goalie I really like the trade down to COL and grab Varlamov and add until everyone is happy.

Flames get a goalie, a good prospect, a still two 2nd round picks even if they add one to give the organization even more quality depth.

Best of everything. Which means it's likely not going to happen.

I just cant see the Avalanche wanting to send Varlamov to anyone in their division. Also he would be worth quite a bit and hes injured a lot. I'd say the risk/reward + the fact we are in the same division means they will be looking to get him out of this division - unless we overpay. I'd prefer Reimer personally.

Just opening up discussions could be leaked and hence the rumours. BT may not be doing anything purposefully.

We aren't in the Avs division.

We aren't in COL's division anymore. We would only see the Avs what 2 or 4 times in a season instead of 6 or 8?

Colorado is in the Central division now, we're Pacific.

Edit: Beaten above.

That makes things more interesting. In that case I'd be happy with Varlamov as long as we can stay at 6 and not overpay.

Of all the rumored goalies, Varlomov would be my choice.

If not, sign Reimer.

Varlamov for 2 2nds + Colborne sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I think Varlamov would command a first rounder. In Calgary's case, the proposals that see a swap of picks #6 and #10 actually make a good deal of sense.

No thanks. Varlamov is great when he is on and terrible when he is off. Pickard would be better.
