This makes me nervous. Hes a UFA next year, and not all that young. Also injury prone over the last couple of years.

I wonder if there would be a "if he signs" caveat to something like this.

2016 2nd and 2017 2nd with potentially a roster player/B prospect.
2017 2nd becomes a 1st if Bishop re-signs.

EDIT - To give a bit of perspective on why they'd chase a goalie with only a year of contract left, perhaps they feel it prudent to give Gillies a full year of games in the AHL to decide how far off he is from NHL action, or if his game can translate to the NHL anyway.
If the cost isn't that high, Bishop could easily drag our team back into the postseason by himself. If he walks, the expansion draft is looming and GMs will be very antsy on not losing goalies for nothing.
|
It will cost more than that even with a year left on his deal.

His report out of Canada is probably a Bob McKenzie speculation tweet from last night.

CGY obviously in market for goalie. Suspect they will or have talked to TB about Bishop:

I think these rumors also help drive down Reimer's price. Don't Reimer's advanced stats completely support exactly what the Flames said they want in a goalie. Wasn't it something like a home plate goalie and Reimer was right at the top of those stats.... If the Flames could get him for 3 mil a season instead of 4 or so and no additional assets they could take the 2nd rounders they save by not having to trade for a goalie and could add them to get 3OV and saved cap space to add Hartnell.

If the #Lightning are going to make a bold move at the draft coming away w/ Toronto's #1 pick would soften the blow of losing Steven Stamkos

For me, it's not so much the price as the term (combined with the price).
If you have to pay Bishop >$6mil over 6 years or something, I don't want to be in a situation in a year or so where Ortio is playing decent enough (crosses fingers, but I believe he can be a good goalie) and Gillies is pushing, and now we have a 30+ goalie making big $$ who's not really all THAT good IMO, who is sitting in limbo ala Vancouver with Luongo/Schneider/Lack or Miller/Lack/Markstrom.

All depends on the asking price but I'd still prefer a younger option like Calvin Pickard.
Pickard/Reimer duo would be ideal, pretty confident a #1 would emerge out of that duo within the next season.
