Ryan Strome should probably be higher - the guy does have a 50 point NHL season - not sure why he would drop right out of the first round.

Ouch.
* at some point, a thorough review of Burke's good and bad moves over his career will be an interesting conversation.

Burke traded up bigtime to get the Sedins.
Truculence! Pugnacity!

Wouldn't trade Hamilton straight across for Nugent-Hopkins either.

My top 3 would be
1) Gaudreau
2) Kucherov
3) Scheifele
I am not sold on Landeskog being #2 despite having a great start to his career. Huberdeau at #5 and Couturier at #8 are overrated as well

Crazy to think that the Flames had identified Gaudreau and Kucherov as wild cards

Makes me so happy. Jumping 103 spots? So much win.

You don't see the irony that many of Burke's successes and failures do not generally correspond with all of his bluster and talk of valuing black and blue hockey?

You do not see that his bluster generally doesn't correspond with his actual behavior?

Huh? Tyler Biggs was a player of the type that Burke likes. Many Toronto moves did correspond quite nicely with his bluster, and were disastrous.

 Stupid Oilers.

Stupid 103 picks

Every GM drafts some Tyler Biggs types. And every GM has some failures.
He traded up for the Sedins. He made a big move to get Kessel. And there are plenty of other examples. But whatever, hate away.

Even more of a reason to trust Button and his group. I think there is a reason he has made it through three regime changes.

Yup, it seems that, when left to his own devices, Button is an excellent talent identifier, and draft projector.

However, I do think Schefele is too low on that one. It'd take him over RNH, Coutourier, Huberdeau, Gibson, Landeskog, and Saad.

Scheifele is easily top 3 in this draft, #1.) Gaudreau #2.) Scheifle #3.) Landeskog, Scheifele just has so many elements to his game.

Great for Johnny and our scouting staff, but this Sven is not a good thing. It means that there is still room for improvement for our scouts in the first round. Sure, one could argue that the Burke and Hartley handling of him probably played a major part of him dropping out of the first round - but mental toughness should be a criteria when we consider who we'd draft.

Yes but let's hope the Hunter Smith type picks don't become a reoccurring thing.

Button for sure is the guy who gets the credit for identifying Johnny and taking him before others could. But Jay allowing the people he hired to do the job he hired them for rather than interfering in aspects that didn't fall under his expertise, is the mark of a good manager.
Jay made a few big mistakes, but overall, he helped this team in the long term pretty dramatically.
