GS is a good host but too much of a hipster. He also needs clothes that fit.

They should team him up with Rob Kerr.

hopefully this also means no more Home Town Hockey.

That'd be the real win.

The move makes sense but not a fan of Maclean personally. Would have preferred a fresh face - just someone coming from a hockey broadcasting background instead of someone like George.

I think Georges hosting skills aren't in question here just sportsnet trying to recover some ratings

More to the point, Sportsnet trying to reduce head count. MacLean is already on the payroll. If they hired somebody new, that would be an extra salary to pay.

I don't give a flying f- about his clothes. He's not great, but also not the problem.

Too many hokey platitudes to cram into a Sunday broadcast, I guess.

This guy is connected to the media somehow. Always bang on with what he tweets. He also blogs at Toronto Sports Media. http://torontosportsmedia.com/

Been hearing that @strombo is the first domino to fall at Rogers hockey for awhile. Glad we didn't break this one.

jonah ‏@yyzsportsmedia
FYI the rumor about @strombo and Ron is a small part of what else is being talked about.

jonah ‏@yyzsportsmedia
This is a panic, cost driven move by Rogers.

I'm definitely in the minority, but I liked Strombo and think MacLean stopped being any good a decade or more ago. Terrible move in my mind. If they were getting rid of someone, it should have been Healy. That guy is harder to kill than a cockroach.

Thank god....Strombo was absolutely cringe worthy in that role and looked over his head and out of place from day 1.

Maclean is second to none as a host. A very good decision from SN.

If there's one thing I wasn't missing from the new HNIC in was more Ron MacLean.

Hosting isn't George's thing, he should have been interviewing.

George is an excellent interviewer (thinking back to his time as the host of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight), but seemed a little out of his depth on HNIC when it came to his hockey knowledge.

When it comes to knowing the game, MacLean is up there with the best. However, mix in his cheesy one liners and Shakespeare quotes, and he quickly becomes tiresome (to me). I would have liked to see a fresh face too but this is a case where they're playing it safe and reverting back to a familiar face I guess.

The HNIC host is hardly their biggest issue though. They need to make personnel changes with their actual in-game broadcasts *cough* Glenn Healy *cough*. That would go a lot further to improving HNIC than this will.

the host doesn't need to have hockey knowledge. Like Liam McHugh is excellent on NBC by just asking questions. George's problem was that he tried to be hockey knowledgable and it failed.

I'm not sure why anyone would rejoice over a reduction of weekly games. Hometown Hockey is a kitschy package in which a national game is marketed. Does anyone actually watch all the pre-game and intermission content on Sunday night? I'm just happy about seeing NHL hockey.

I don't think Strombo was great, but he wasn't the problem either.

Hrudey and Friedman are the only analysts on that panel that I actually like. Get rid of the likes of Damien Cox, Glenn Healy, etc.

B.S. He just wasn't the right personality for the role, was never personal with most people who weren't fans. As far as Maclean goes, he's a closet Oiler fan but is easily the most natural host for HNIC available. Agree with the change if true.

You have to look no further than the 2-3 comments on his clothes that directly follow this post to get confirmation on it.

Rogers better tell Friedman to fix those socks.

Just reread the first ten comments and didn't see a single mention about his clothing.
