If the fee gets re-invested in improving it, then I'm all for it.
Still won't go there though

Is it really that bad? I just forwarded a blog about waterparks and such to my husband today and it mentioned Sikome. I thought it might be fun once or twice just to give my kid a place to play in the sand (We live in a condo, no yard)

It's not that bad. That's exactly what it's good for is kids to play in the sand and enjoy a beach in the city. It's actually a decent setup there, if you're into that sort of thing (I'm not personally).

If it improves the place then this is great, $10 for a family for a day? That's virtually nothing and could go a long way in improving a place which has often been the butt of jokes.

I ask people who I hear whining about this place when the last time they visited was. Most whiners have never been or havent been for years and cant remember much from when they were there. The beach is nice for what it is we. We live in area without many lakes and only a "lucky" few lives in lake communities. Its a decent way for many especially those with kids to get to a lake in summer here in Calgary.

It's almost pool water now. It's filtered and tested, don't think it's chlorinated though. apparently it used to be a ghetto.
It's great half day and now hopefully is less busy.

It's chlorinated, but the sun breaks down most of the residual chlorine so there's not really much in the lake itself. The treatment plant handles about a million gallons of water a day and there's typically 7 million gallons of water in the lake. Water samples are submitted to Alberta Health once a week and although lakes have more wiggle room, typically test better than many of the outdoor public pools in Calgary.

When they put the fence up around it 5ish years ago, I said it was only a matter of time before they started to charge for it.

As a guard for a city pool: we have to send weekly samples in for testing as well. Our chlorine levels are usually 1.5-3mg/L (Alberta Health regulation policies say it needs to be over 1 mg/L Read here: http://www.health.alberta.ca/documen...ards-Pools.pdf ) At our pool, we like it to be around 3 mg/L. If you look up Recreational facility closures on their website, you can see pools that have had issues: http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/pu...ities.htm#2016 This example is the Calgary region.
If we have any "contaminations" we close the pool, hyper-chlorinate and we have to send a sample to the lab. We take WRI's (water related illnesses) pretty seriously.
