Dennis Wideman, 50% retained, and our 2nd for Nichushkin.

Differing contract length. Essentially, it's one year of Lehtonen around 5.5, one year at 2.85. For Dallas, it's one year of Wideman at 5.5 and one year of dead weight 2.85.
I see the Dallas upside as freeing up a goalie spot.

I believe in the Jays.

Lehtonen has an additional year on his deal. 50% retention would keep the deal cap neutral. on both sides.

Absolutely none.
Wideman has a $5.25 million cap hit.
Lehtonen has a $5.9 million cap hit.
Retaining them both 50% would result in the following:
Calgary retains $2.625 million, gets $2.95 of cap in Lehtonen.
Dallas retains $2.95 million, gets $2.625 of cap in Wideman.
After Wideman's contract expires, both Calgary and Dallas would be paying half of Lehtonen's salary, which would be ok in the second year. But in 2016-17, Calgary would actually lose ~350k of cap space. Treliving would not do that, and I don't think Nill would want 3 million in dead weight, either.

It would make it more palatable for the Flames in 2017-18, but I see no benefit for the Stars. It's also a bit disingenuous for that poster to suggest that Lehtonen is no better than a back-up when Lehtonen consistently wins games for the Stars behind a pretty terrible defensive club.

I'd argue that Lehtonen also allows soft goals frequently, so it's hard to judge what he is. Here's a reason they brought in Niemi instead of a lesser backup.
It would be hard for Dallas to move either of their goalies at full value.

I'm not sure about Lehtonen's stats, either. Last year, playing behind a good team -- and the best D Dallas has had in years -- he posted a .906 SV% and a 2.76 GAA. His playoff stats were even worse. He had a .899 SV% and a 2.81 GAA.
He certainly wouldn't be my first choice. I'd rather get Reimer for free.

I think Dallas wouldn't do it because they are retaining twice as much money because of the extra year.
Wideman (50%) for Lehtonen (30%) might work. The Stars would pay out about $3.5m over two seasons in retention while the Flames would retain $2.6m over one year.
Lehtonen at 4.1m isn't that great though. Don't know if there's really a fit. I'd rather just see Wideman @50% for 2017 2nd + rights to Demers or something.

Kiprusoff also allowed soft goals frequently, especially when he played behind a team that was only worried about scoring goals like Lehtonen plays behind in Dallas.

This. Lehtonen is basically Ramo.

I don't think anyone actually wants Lehtonen, but he is at worst a better version of Ramo

But what's the point? We improve our goaltending from 2 out of 10 to 4 out of 10?
With salary tied up for two years?
Let's set the bar higher.

His last two seasons his sv% has been .906 and .903, in the playoffs he was .899. I wouldn't bank on him getting back to average, not at that cap hit. Honestly I don't see a lot separating them at this point, it doesn't matter that Lehtonen used to be good.

How would I know the point? I stated I didn't think anyone actually wanted him. The only person suggesting him thinks he's a back-up.

You need to look at more than save %, Lehtonen may be a below average starter, but he is a starter nonetheless. That Stars team is a trainwreck defensively and only cares about scoring goals, that has a negative impact on any goaltenders numbers.

Fair enough. I still think we can do better. BT is basically going to the goalie store this summer. If a guy like Lehtonen is who he gets, I will be pretty disappointed.

I was never suggesting we go after him, in fact in the last post you quoted I said I didn't think anyone here wants him.

Heck, I don't even want him, I just thought it would generate interesting discussion.
