I don't watch the Isles much, but when I do, I notice Cizikas every time. He's a player I'd love to have on the Flames.

There's literally no good reason to commit 5 years to anyone that isn't in the top half of your lineup anymore. The money is whatever, but that term could burn them.

The Flames signed Frolik to improve their PK.

The Islanders are 4th in the league in PK % the Flames are last.

Another comparable on the Flames PK 3/4 C is Stajan.

The Flames have become the glass house of bad contracts.... There are very few contracts that are worse than the ones that the Flames have handed out.

This guy is a bottom 3 player, not a bottom 6...
I suppose he could move up the ladder if Okposo and/or Nielsen are lost in free agency..but they still have Tavares, Nelson, Bailey, Grabosvki, Kulemin, Strome and Lee presumably ahead of him..plus prospects like DaColle, Barzal, etc on the way
plus any new UFA's they might sign.
Weird signing.

Weird signing.
Not many bottom 3 players put up 30 points though.

He finished 7th among Islanders forwards in points.

Ugh, would you quit it with these rants already. What does this signing really have anything to do with the Flames? Get over yourself already.

That was mainly due to injuries.
he was 9th in PPG among their forwards.

He's an okay player, but this is an overpayment in both term and cap hit.

There's that classic Ricardo post the forum has been missing for the past couple weeks.

Too high of a dollar value in my opinion for 5 years.

Should get a lowered amount for that contract length.

I get that the guy is valuable and maybe they have one of the 4th lines in the league. But that is too rich for that kind of player.

I have to disagree with your last statement. The Flames haven't handed out any crippling contracts. Frolik earns what he makes. Wideman, up until this season, earned his pay and he only has 1 year left. Hudler certainly worked out. Stajan, Raymond, Engelland and Smid were overpaid but their term was timed well for when the younger guys need to get paid, so no crippling done because of those. Engelland, Stajan and Bouma can still be effective everyday players. You can argue that Gio was signed for a lot of money and term but it's certainly not a bad contract today.

Here's 15 different teams who have way worse contracts.
Arizona - Smith
Buffalo - Bogosian
Carolina - Semin buyout, J. Stall
Colorado - Varlamov
Columbus - Clarkson
Dallas - Lethonen and Niemi
Detroit - Franzen, Howard, Weiss buyout
Edmonton - RNH, Sekera
Florida - Bolland
LA - Brown, Richards
Minnesota - Coyle
NJ - Zajac, Clowe
Ottawa - B. Ryan and Mcaarthur
Philly - MacDonald
Toronto - seems to be their motto

I think Toronto is the glass house of bad contracts.

I really like Cizikas... I think it is a fair deal, if not a bit of a gamble.
I think he does have a decent amount of upward trajectory in his game.. thinking what Abdelkader has grown to the last couple of years.

I hear you but its risky paying for that upward trajectory in advance, especially on a long term deal.

Kind of telling on how valuable they feel Okposo is when they are willing to spend this much on a depth forward yet are fine seeing him leave to free agency.

JVR 4.25M Bozak 4.2 Frolik 4.3

Rielly 5 M Hamilton 5.75 Rielly was picked as one of the 4 best young North American D-men and Hamilton was not picked in the top 7.

Giordano at age 32 with 4 career playoff games is the 10th highest paid D-man in the league. ... 6th highest paid Canadian.... was not serious considered to make Team Canada. He is not even the best D-man on the Flames. Gio's contract is bad this year and not going to get better.

Sounds like they need new 1st through 3rd lines then, rather than over investment in their 4th.

And this has exactly what to do with the Isles signing Cizikas?!?
