I heard a German joke about a welcome sign as you enter Poland from Germany "Welcome to Poland. Your car is already here."

Thank you for all of your insights everyone. And yes, I misspelled Auschwitz. I'm staying a block away from Old Town and I expect that to take up most of my days.

Now these model women you speak of.....

They're everywhere. I suggest some good neck warm ups before going out.

ESPECIALLY in Krakow.

Save yourself a few grand, skip the trip and head down to Jans, off Memorial.
Eat some amazing kielbasa and be satisfied forever.

In all seriousness though, I'm jealous of your trip. I've been fortunate to travel many places around the world, but have never made it to Poland yet. I plan on going one day, to see my family's roots, spread some of my fathers ashes, and to hear the locals properly pronounce my last name, which is always a treat.
Enjoy your trip!

Yeah, I'm very curious to discover some of my roots there as well. Both of my mother's parents are Polish. So i've got a lot of names to look up and try to find. Who knows who I will discover....

I visited Auschwitz and wouldn't recommend it unless you want to have a negative outlook on life. Let's say cattle in a slaughterhouse are treated more humanely.

They talk about this at Auschwitz too so it's not all "Victor writes the history books"

Jan's is good for meat but his Kielbasa is not the greatest. Polcan at Heritage and Fairmount has better Kielbasa.

I was there last summer and you have already picked the two places I would say you should go. Yes, Auschwitz is disturbing, but I think it's an important part of history that everyone should see at some point.

The salt mines were amazing! I visited a number of countries on this trip and the salt mines were probably one of my top sites altogether. Plus, I was in Europe during a horrible heat wave and it was nice and cool in the mines.

We stayed right in the old town and it is a nice place to walk around, with lots of places to eat and drink.
