Loob was definitely one of the Flames fan favorites of all time, and brought so much talent and 'wow' factor onto the ice like nobody else could on the Flames - and that is saying a lot, since that team won the cup. He brought more people out of their seats than anyone else on the team - maybe with the exception of Tim Hunter's fights anyways.

I think it is because of him that I have always enjoyed a lot of players that many on this forum don't like much. I know there was Kent Nielsen - and sure, he was exciting to watch when he was on, but for me Loob was always the 'first' of his kind.

Loob - Makarov - Nylander - Huselius - Gaudreau

These guys all had marvelous stick-handling and playmaking ability. Sure, Nylander and Huselius had their warts, but all in all these players just did things with the puck so regularly that you couldn't ever really see it coming.

Loob was the first player that made me appreciate the smaller, shifty and just exciting player to watch on the ice. One of the all-time greatest of Flames, and hey - they greatest Swedish forward of all time (IMO :P).

Imagine if he stayed on for another 3-4 seasons, oh man what could have been.

It always strikes how much goaltending has evolved. The majority of those shots would be stopped today. Still, no doubt a great player and still a national hero over here.

Fyp. It's striking how much thinner those goalies look than today's behemoths

The RW depth chart would have been sick:

Loob
Makarov
Mullen
Hunter

Smokin' Hakan. Yep, we really missed him when he left to go back home.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

A modern goalie would make more saves naked. Positioning, angles, standing up etc. Its peewee standard compared to today really, the development has been exponential.
