The Flames arent neck deep in anything.

There is a difference between having a lot of defensemen and having good defensemen.

BPA will be a Dman and I think that is who they will take (just not sure if it is Chychrun or Juolevi). IMO the player picked in this draft will not dress for the Flames until 17/18 at the earliest so just add to the stables and trade from a position of strength down the road.

I'm going to stick with Nylander because he plays the position they are lacking in depth and he's the most skilled player left. I recall in 2014 many being worried that they may take Ritchie or Vertanen instead of Bennett who had a pretty bad combine in the strength department. They went skill then and I feel they will go skill again. That said it's really hard to say what their draft order looks like after the top 3 so they could have another player they like here but I would be shocked if they took a defenseman after using last years to bolster defensive depth.

I'm still thinking Nylander.

Keller is intriguing though.

I can't imagine them taking either of those guys at #6. I'd be shocked if Keller went top 8. Wouldn't be surprised if Keller went outside the top 10, that's more realistic IMO. Tiny forwards almost never rise in the draft in all my time of watching it. Big centres, big dmen are likely to rise on draft day. Those are the commodities every team wants.

I understand why people pick Nylander even though I'm skeptical the Flames have him top 6. He's super skilled, a right shot, can play both wings. But Keller? I think the chance that Keller is top 6 for the Flames is nonexistent. He might be someone you want the Flames to take but that wasn't Bingo's question. I don't think he's a realistic pick at #6 at all. I'd be skeptical of him going top 6 regardless of who our management team is but knowing the mandate that Burke and Treliving have to make the team bigger while not losing speed/skill it makes the idea of us taking Keller at 6 a complete fantasy. No scouting list except Pronman thinks he's a top 6 pick and Pronman's biases run counter the biases of our management team.

I went Nylander. I think he's always been 6th within 4-6 ledge.
I actually don't think it is poorly worded. I just think that if you had already run daily polls, I would bet that Mathews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Dubois and Tkachuk would all be gone by the time #6 came around. The only question would be if Dubois or Tkachuk would be taken at 4.

Word it however you want, but that is essentially 'the ledge' for most people on CalgaryPuck, and I would assume that only a very small minority see it differently on this forum.

Really hope it's Nylander.

As bare as we are on D in the farm we're far more bare on FW. At least Kylington and Andersson are looking solid. No one is looking like a good bet for 1st line potential.

The poll is asking who Calgary will take, not who Calgary should take. Maybe they should take Nylander (although I don't think so). But based on what Treliving and Burke have said, it wouldn't make much sense to take Nylander at 6th. Burke puts wingers are the bottom of the positional priority list. He also wants a big/tough/truculent team.

Out of the available defense, I think Chychrun best fits the Flames' preferences. Sure, the Flames have a number of solid defense prospects, but I doubt that will have an impact on this selection. This pick is too important to not go BPA.

BPA which would be Joulevi based off of the expert drafts.

I still really want Tkachuk. He was a menace in the playoffs.

Now you'll get to see him and the other draft eligible Knights like Joulevi, Jones, Pu, and Mete (all who could conceivably be 1st rounders as I have seen them on various lists at times as 1st rounders) and Parsons their goalie who has improved all year on National TV.

Marner got the MVP, but I would have picked Tkachuk. He would have certainly got the finals MVP. Their playoff numbers...keeping in mind Tkachuk basically played on one leg for the 2nd half of the 1st game, and all of games 2 and 3 before looking less hurt in Game 4.

Marner: 18GP - 16G - 28A - 44P - +30 - 8PIM - 3PPG - 10PPA
Tkachuk: 18 GP - 20G - 20A - 40P - +23 - 42PIM - 8PPG - 6PPA

I have bolded the ones that stand out. 20 goals in 18 games (actually in 16, didn't score in the last two) led the OHL. The PIMS also led the OHL, he was under the skin of every player and guys were taking runs at him all over the ice. Now he, earned some of those by being a nasty prick which I love, but he was also getting under the refs skin as every time there was something going on it was because of him, so they'd throw both guys in the box.

Game 2 of the finals, Tkachuk had 6 PIMS in the first 8 minutes, followed by 3 goals and an assist all one leg after a dirty knee hit.

I picked Brown. I think it is either him or Chychrun that best-fits what the team is trying to build towards. Bigger, more physical, but still talented and fast (and yes, Brown is indeed all of that).

With that being said, I would love Jost, Sergachev, Juolevi and Keller as well. Jost plays such a high-tempo and skilled game, that I think would fit in PERFECTLY with Bennett. Sergachev may be the most offensive and biggest out of the defencemen, Juolevi may be the best overall defencemen, while Keller could add another high-octane winger for the Flames to legitimize a 2nd scoring line.

Nylander is below these guys in his own little tier, but not far down.

I am somewhat cooler on the rest - though I do think Bean has a tonne of potential.

From my unknown vantage point, It's pretty open when you get to 6. With the team looking to improve their size and possession numbers, I suspect a guy like Brown could be rating pretty high on their list.

Of course when you get to this point in the draft, and you have the choice to get the first defenseman in the draft, that's also not a bad pick.

Picking 6th really may be the most disappointing position in the draft.

Why is that? 7 or 8 would have been way worse

I didn't say picking 7th or 8th would be better, it's just more disappointing to pick 6th.

Hence the point of this thread. "Big 5". We just miss out.

Treliving says there is a ledge at 6. Unless you think he's lying, I don't see how 6 can be disappointing outside of the fact that we didn't win a top 3 pick.

Burke is a size queen and Calgary will end up taking Brown. However, I think they should select Keller.

I am very surprised with the amount of love Brown gets. We are talking about 6th overall here, he shouldn't be in that conversation IMO.

I think some of you are valuing his massive size WAY too much.
