Agreed it was one of those deals (why I said it wasn't a bad deal) where it was worth it because he's been a big performer for them in the playoffs and regular season but the back end of the deal will have to be dealt with soon. Another thing about Tallon that can't be stressed enough is that Ekblad is a Panther in spite of Tallon as that guy worked his butt off trying to trade that pick for immediate help.

I am intrigued by this comment. Players are supposed to tip the equipment managers or provide them with an envelope of cash at Christmas?

Likely. Or like we heard Sedin gave his all star cheque to the equipment guys.

Pretty much. At the end of the season the players all chip in and it's split between the medical and equipment staff as a thank you for all the hard work they put in.

How much is this in the NHL? $1,000 per player? $10,000 per player? A percentage of salary?
Kind of hoping the players making 5-9 million a year are putting some big bucks into this kitty...

I was kind of hoping the owners would pay the equipment guys a fair salary so they didn't need to rely on handouts from the players.

No idea, I never got into the numbers, just know it was happening. It's not hand outs. It's just the players showing appreciation to guys who are at the rink almost 24/7 during the season to make sure the players have what they need to be successful.

there was a story on it earlier this year for how some of them get their tips with the kangaroo court fines amongst the team

Listening to Elliott on 960 this morning, he said something really weird. Decisions to be made by Tallon (President), Rowe (GM), Joyce (AGM) as a committee but Joyce the AGM will have the biggest influence. That is just absurd.
So had to find out who this Joyce guy is...

Apparently there is a rumor going around that Tallon might leave the Panthers. Friedman says the rumor is that the team at the top of the list that Tallon would join is the Canucks. Canucks denied it according to Friedman, but he thinks if there is anything to it, it will happen around June 30.
Talk of the rumor starts at 2:30 in this video:

So, the Panthers are going to employ the nuclear option next season?

I'm really enjoying the Benning/Weisbrod show in Vancouver and would be sad to see it end but if they have to go I'm perfectly fine with Tallon being the replacement. I would love to see Bryan Bickell in a Canucks jersey on his current salary and that's a typical Tallon move.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
FLA changes continue. Hearing team fired Scott Luce, who ran organization's very successful drafts of past few years. He will be in demand
Luce was pretty much in charge of Panther's drafting since 2003

Really not a great track record outside the first round. Heck, really not that impressive outside of top 5 picks.

Just goes to show how much failure there is in the later rounds. The chance of getting an impact NHLer out of the 4th round or beyond is extremely low.
This guy's record makes Tod Button look like a scouting genius in comparison.

You do have to wonder how much the Panthers spent on amateur scouting for the last decade plus. They have been one of the weakest teams financially.
