Whats even better is that Yakupov put in that trade request and the Oilers.....what? Ignored him?

I hope the Oilers trade #4 + Klefbom + ??? for Subban.

Would love to see them sell the farm for the guy making $9M per year.

The reason for his trade request has been revealed:

Brian Compton @BComptonNHL
Hamonic said a family member with serious health issue has stabilized. Loves being an Islander, wants to win Cup here. #Isles

Quote:
“When Garth and I spoke last summer, the whole reason why this came about was some serious health concerns for a member of my family back home,” Hamonic said. “It was a tough, trying year but I had the support of the whole organization and my teammates the whole year and I couldn’t be more thankful for that.

“In the last little while, we’ve learned the situation has stabilized itself. Just relieved for that, thankful for that, pretty grateful. I love being an Islander, it’s my home here, my family loves it, I love my teammates, this organization. Being an Islander is one of the best things I do with my life.”

That's great news! I was actually expecting the opposite.

Good to hear that this is working out for both Hamonic and the Islanders. I suspect Garth Snow would have felt bad trading him to Edmonton because he did request a trade to Western Canada and not Siberia.

Sounds like the Islanders staff handled all of this very professionally. Good to hear.

have to wonder what the Oilers were thinking?! Chiarelli had a 1/2 DMan wanting a trade to western Canada on a peach of a contract...

he only had, oh, 3-4 months to try making that deal, but could not come to a deal?!

LOL... there were some oilers fans who didn't think a 4 for Hamonic was "worth it" and that the Isles should throw something else in?!

wow... no wonder they continue to suck.

I'm not sure if the owner has to sign off on big deals but there's really a reluctance by that organization to pay the price to make the big changes required. To get a good defenseman on a great contract it was likely going to cost RNH or Eberle and it's kind of strange that they couldn't get that done although who knows if the Islanders were overly interested in those players.

Thank god he wrote the article. Hope Treliving read to pick up on the goaltending issue. Also, probably a good reminder for Treliving to sign Monahan and Gaudreau, like a yellow sticky note on your desk.

oh, for sure. the NYI were looking for 'help now'...and Katz be Katz'ing probably too.

but really, they could kept the 4 and have traded Nurse or Klefbaum + and picks potentially too... rationale being that there's no guarantee either of them will be as good as Hamonic is now. And very unlikely that they will end up being actually better than Hamonic.

Next, Jonathan Drouin rescinds trade request.

“When Stevie Y and I spoke earlier in the year, the whole reason why this came about was some serious concerns about my playing time and roster spot,” Drouin said. “It was a tough, trying year but now that it's obvious I'm one of the best players on the team and getting first unit PP time, I'm happy to stick it out and get some of that F-you money that will free up when Stammer signs with the Leafs."

That's fine though; you can buy a shooter tutor for 40 bucks and save on goaltending.

I thought Hiller signed over seas

I think the oilers want to have a team full of at least top 10 picks and if that happens, they'll magically unlock some feature where they wouldn't have a salary cap and can pay everyone 6 mil per.

The oilers core right now is McDavid and maybe Dry saddle but they won't trade away anyone else so everyone is a core player there lol
