Do we need permission to offer Sutter a contract?

I'd like Sutter back. As long as he has no say in management decisions.

From Bobism's to Sutterism's - now that would be a big change!

Besides, he's not the only coach that's capable of teaching a team how to win. I'm sure the Flames will find the candidate that is best suited for this team. Heck, you never know, D. Sutter might be looking to come home.
Yup. Me too. It's how he deals with frustration, with an endless supply of garbled swearing. I saw it years ago when he was on the 24/7 series and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Makes sense. Wild have a good club with the right coach.

I wouldn't put much stock in ANY rumors pertaining to Flames candidates. They have a well developed reputation for keeping info. out of the media.

Now that Boudreau is off the market.

Time for an updated poll that excludes previous NHL coaches and only lists potential newbie coaches.

I wonder if Minny gave that contract with the caveat it needed to be signed within a certain time frame. Explains how quickly things progressed.

Boudreau might find winning a bit more difficult without a Getzlaf or Ovechkin on his roster. Suter is a horse and Dubnyk has been solid in net. But nothing about the Wild screams contender to me. Looks more like a team with 2 more shots qualifying as a Wild Card team.

Agreed. This was supposed to be a team loaded with young talent a few years ago. I would say Granlund has not developed into the player he was hyped to be. Coyle, Niederitter, Zucker are decent young players but are not stars. Parise, and Suter have been good enough to get them in the playoffs and win the occasional round but they are not getting over the hump. Older players Koivu, Pommonville, and Vanek appear to be aging horribly.

I do think they move a guy like Brodin for a decent young forward (Nuge maybe?) they have a long way to go and their window is likely closing as Parise and Suter are 32 next year

Lots of contracts in hockey expire right around July 1st. Sutter may potentially be under contract until then and unavailable to be talked to without permission.

Would Darryl Sutter be open to coming back? I would gather he still has a sour taste left with ownership/Ken King.

I remember the story of how Darryl asked his son Christopher what he wanted to do for his birthday, and Christopher declared he wanted to go to the Flames game. So Darryl bought tickets and they went to the Saddledome, without a word to the organization. He was spotted in the second period and put on the jumbotron, and the entire arena gave him an ovation.

Sure a lot of time has passed since then, but he seems too proud a man to me. Don't think he'd want to return.

Relieved about Boudreau. Although a little on edge until I see who they actually hire.

Does anything in your story indicate he wouldn't come back though? He wanted a quiet night at the game it seems. Unless there's more to the story.

He was really ticked off when Dean Lombardi fired him in San Jose, as well. That relationship has never healed

Kidding aside, Sutter still likes Calgary. Even said he would cheer for the Flames when the Kings were eliminated by Calgary last season

I believe the reason he did it quietly was that he did not want contact with the Flames. He's just such a great dad he wouldn't deny his son's birthday wish.

Like I said, long time ago. Hopefully the wounds have healed and if so he would be an excellent coach here. But he was given the keys to the franchise and had them yanked away. Not sure what his appetite to return would be.
