I think, given the injuries to Malkin and Kessel having an underwhelming season, that if you took Crosby out of this current Pens team, they don't have a cat in hells chance of even making it into the play offs, let alone be 1 game away from knocking out the favourites.
I think Crosby is more important to the Pens than Kane is to the Hawks this season. The Hawks would still win games without Kane. But I don't think the Pens would without Crosby. But if Kane wins it, so be it. Really not going to get into a bind over this award.

You would have no idea who Panarin even was if not for Kane.

People say Kessel and Malkin had down years but so did Hossa and Toews.

I think you're really selling Panarin short. He's a great player regardless of whether he's with Kane or not and that's obvious from watching him play.

The entire Pittsburgh team "forgot" to show up until the coaching change, then their offense clicked.

Ppl are always hating on Malkin, he was still over a point a game player, had a higher ppg than Seguin and was only behind Crosby, McD, Benn and Kane. He was injured tho.

Also 100% agree with ppl aaying Fleury and Letang were the pens MVP before Crosby went nuts. Could make the case that Letang is more deserving of the nom than Crosby.

Still, The entire team isn't up for the MVP. Crosby doesn't even deserve to be in the picture. He was largely invisible for half the season.

Another reason thing to consider is the Hagelin-Bonino-Kess line, that line was their best line during their last 15-1 stretch. I obvs just thought of that after watching them dominate the caps all series.

Crosby was used largely in a defensive role this series allowing the Kessel line to have the offensive match ups.
