You'd probably have an easier time pry #3 out of ClB and that by all accounts is going to cost all your extremities.

That will never happen. The Jets future looks very bright. Calgary has to be resigned to the fact they will get a lesser prospect that most likely wont have the same impact.

Wouldn't know. I could speculate a bunch on the whole issue of who gets asked and how many turn it down and why, but really it'd just be a bunch of guesswork.

Only the higher profile players turning the offer down tends to be on the news.

They obviously don't want to ask too many guys since it would suck to fly to Europe only to get cut from the team. They also tend to hold out for higher profile players dropping out from the playoffs, which adds another wrinkle. (Guys like Määttä and Vatanen for example).

It's a complicated process, that much is certain.

I wonder if Laine can supplant Matthews as the #1 pick with his WHC performance.

I just looked up and there were only 6 NHL d-men in the NHL last year with only 4 having 40+ games

Rasmus Ristolainen
Sami Vatanen
Olli Maatta
Jyrki Jokipakka
Petteri Lindbohm
Esa Lindell

Lindell with his 4 NHL games is on the roster. Have to think that Jokipakka would be considered a higher profile player....

Vatanen was eliminated at the same time as Perry who is played for Canada today.

Finland seems to have 1 open roster spot....

Jokipakka didn't come to play for us because he has some minor hip injury.

good god Laine is going to be incredible. Worst case scenario is he some how plays out of his mind and takes over #1 spot, the Jets have to "settle" for Matthews.

Laine is showing the drop off wasn't after 3; it was after 2. What an incredible talent.

Stupid draft lottery. Sigh. At least none of our division rivals got these potential superstars.

Should be happy. No lottery and Edmonton gets Laine or Matthews.

No. The gross incompetence the Oil continue to foster, should exclude them from picking even top 10, after so many first overalls in such a short span.

We should pick one higher, Oil last pick of the non-playoff teams.

No lottery and the Oilers don't have McDavid.

Worst case would be a bad injury right before you sign a 7/8 year $50Mish contract. Might suddenly change things.

Brodie and Hamilton as well

They asked Rasmus and Sami as far as I know, but there are contract negotiations to be held and they said they don't want to risk it. Makes sense.

Maybe in the rankings but the Leafs need a franchise center so Matthews will be the 1st overall pick. There is the outside chance I suppose that they figure Stamkos is a slam dunk signing and Laine is drafted to be his RW although seeing they are both shooters I don't see the fit. Hell TSN has a Matthews watch going on at the WHC so it's likely he gets more hype this offseason than McDavid got last season.

I wouldn't worry about not getting Laine, we had all those character wins at the end of year, that will surely carry the momentum into the new season.. with a new coaching staff
