I don't think McDavid should win but he was pretty impressive.

Panarin should get it, he made Kane better for sure. 👻 🐻 is legit though and suspect he'd win with a full season.

If mcdavid wins it, it'll be ridiculous solely on the definition of the prize being awarded for best rookie over the whole season.

Ghost was spectacular

As for Panarin, come on, Kessel played with Crosby and didn't show much. Notions that he played with Kane and that's the only reason he put up those numbers is ludicrous. Panarin stepped into the hardest league in the world for the first time and lit it up, regardless of 1 player, and I doubt it was a one way street with Kane. If anyone deserves to win, it's him.

It's a close race between either and I'd be ecstatic to hear if either won.

panarin for me...Ghost played great too, but doesn't the number of games played eliminate him too, if that's the strike on Mcdavid?

but Mcdavid will probably somehow grease his way into the award based on reputation... sadly.

Why would that be sad? It's not a team award

Really? Why?

Ghost had a better and more impactful season than Eichel

Panarin shouldn't even count as a rookie. He's been playing pro hockey since 2008.

He can't. The Calder isn't one of the awards that a player can receive additional bonuses for winning. He'll get money from the league as required by the CBA, but that doesn't count against Chicago's cap.

On the other hand, he should receive ample bonus money for finishing in the top-10 in league scoring, so whether he wins the Calder or not, the Hawks should be feeling some cap crunch next season because of him.

Panarin is 24 while playing with Kane and top established offensive dmen. McJesus was 18 surrounded by a horrible team, city, and core, suffered a terrible injury, and managed over a point per game. It'll be close with an edge to McDavid given the reputation.

Ah the Fix is in full display at NHL HQ these days - giving TO the chance to draft #1 and bail out Rogers - next it will be McDavid winning the Calder to ensure his placement in Edm doesn't adversely impact his endorsement earnings ... book it.

Ghost Is Be Here would be my vote.

As a first year player to learn how to play NHL defense right off the bat is extremely impressive. Nevermind the fact that he had huge point totals too.

This is the anti-Gaudreau year. Johnny Hockey should have won Calder, but they gave it to Ekblad, who scored less points than Ghost did this year. McDavid is going to win this going away, even though he was injured for half the season and his team played worse with him in the lineup. Letting the media vote for this is a joke.

I know. To me, the Pearson (Lindsay) is 10x the trophy that the Hart is because it's voted by the players.

IMO, all the major trophies except the Adams should be voted on by the players.

If McDavid wins it based on 45 GP it's a complete joke.

That being said Johnny finishing third in Calder voting was a complete joke as well given he played consistently well all season long.

Panarin deserves the award. I don't care if he's 24 and played however many years of pro hockey (typical Oilers fan excuses).

In that case screw him. Ghostibehere should win.

Panarin made his team and the players around him better.

Not sure why people are trying to over think this or go against the grain. Panarin absolutely killed it. 77pts in 80 games is unreal. He instantly adjusted to the NHL. Kane had a career year so its probably safe to say he helped with that as well. Not a one way street.

In every season where NHL teams have played at least 70 games, no non-goalie has ever won the Calder having played fewer than 60 games that season.

Appreciate the Ghost Bear love. The recognition is great. Panarin should win though. I don't buy the argument that he is too old or experienced to win. Either eliminate him from the ballot, else keep him in and treat him based on his performance. By the same vein, Ekblad should not have gotten special treatment for being 18. They should be judged solely on their performance.
